Just had a rather strong and lengthy earthquake here in East Tennessee. The event started with a sudden shake, then a pause, then a lengthy quake of significant magnitude, I would estimate to be in the range of 3 to 4. Is this event connected to shaking in other areas? How is that mountain side in the Azores(?) which is capable of sending a massive tsunami toward the East Coast fairing? Ant word from other freepers out there?
It's about 500 miles west LOL. Seriously I would not have wanted to been in Cumberland Gap or Big Walker Mountain Tunnels.
A friend of mine in Kingsport was outside and did not feel it; but neighbor children were all running outside from their homes...they had no idea what was going on. They said their houses were ‘shaking’...
Sadly, no.
I have a electrician friend who drives by my house on occasion and sends me a messge via his too powerful CB radio. The speakers in my house will blare his voice shouting ‘Howdy, Doc’, stay cool’, or some such tweak. He knows his radio is putting out too high a wattage when he does it, then he turns the wattage back to government dictates. Shocked me the first time he did it, but now I just get a good chuckle out of it and shove my thunmbs in the air.
That was the waterbed- color of money.
LOL...more likely a meth lab, these days.

Fear not...... I’m a FEMA trained New Madrid earthquake response damage assessor. They trained us in East Tennessee thinking the west would be out of action.
My training was many years ago and I doubt if they remember me.
I was typing a reply to Alamo_Girl on another thread when it hit! http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2956454/posts?page=36#36
M4? Pfft! We eat those for breakfast here in California.
Now the decision on Tuesday to tax ourselves a lot more — that’s an M8.
Epicenter nearby Carr Folk Lake Dam on the Sassafras Crik. Hope those folks downstream doublecheck their routes of egress.
Isn’t it fun!
LOL! I have been through both of those on several occasions...I’ll some gas pedals got tromped but good if they were mid-tunnel when things started rocking...
Himself was talking to a friend via his iPhone and when he was done, ‘hung up’ and turned the phone off.
Seconds later, for a good 5 minutes, there was a ‘conversation’ going on in the room and blast if we could find the source of it.
Sounded like several people talking at once, almost like shortwave radio.
The phone was definitely off, the TV was on mute and there are no radios or anything else in the bedroom that could’ve been the source.
Just as mysteriously as it started, it stopped.
Couldn't make out what the voices were saying, though.
I would suspect Tennessee churches will be filled more than usual tomorrow... :-)
Between Knoxville & Crossville in Kingston.
Back in 1984 I was driving a rig and had about a months experience. I took my first drive down a mountain up on Big Walker coming from I-81 end. Oh and it was at night LOL. Black Mountain was the one I hated though.
I’m jealous, usually the voices talk to me.
When the tremor happened today, both of our laptops were on, then they went to black screen of death with words like “crash dump”. We did the auto recover/repair and got both back, but it was odd that both were impacted. It didn’t seem that strong.
Yep...at work today in Berea, KY. Felt a pretty significant shaking just after 12 noon.
My first earthquake experience. I’m underwhelmed...haha
This was the first Himself heard the voices, too.
[which probably doesn’t bode well]
