(CNSNews.com) – A record 70.4 million people were enrolled in the Medicaid health care program for the poor in fiscal year 2011, according to government figures provided to CNSNews.com.

That figure equals about 22 percent of the population, which means there was one person on Medicaid for every 5 Americans in 2011.

The record number of Medicaid enrollees in 2011 – the earliest year for which figures are available – is a count of all persons enrolled in Medicaid for any part of that year, providing the fullest and most accurate count of the size of the entitlement program. (The federal fiscal year in 2011 ran from Oct. 1, 2010 to Sept. 30, 2011.)

“There’s no such thing as a free lunch. Somebody always has to pay.”

The Democrats know that. Here’s their saying....

“Yeah, there’s no free lunch, but if we stick the taxpayers with the bill, then it don’t cost us a thing.”

So what are you going to do about it other than complain? Nothing.

And I know of a number of cases where those people worked to transfer assets before applying for Medicaid to shield their heirs’ inheritance. We got stuck with the bill.

Perfectly legal, even if you or I might not like it.

Not much different than stashing money in offshore accounts to avoid federal taxes.

If you look back upon your life, and you are truthful with yourself, you will see that your present circumstances were caused by the choices you made. There is the measure of bad luck, but most of that can be compensated for if you made the proper decisions in your life. I cleaned toilets so I could afford university tuition. I decided what kind of quality of life I wanted, and planned and worked for that. What I didn’t plan on, was the number of people who didn’t plan for their future and now can’t have the lifestyle they desire, and they think I should be forced to help them out. The LAW OF EFFECT says that you generally get more of the behavior that is rewarded and less of the behavior that is punished. If we punish the people who work hard and plan by forcing them to give up what they have earned to others who did not successfully plan out their lives, then we will have fewer people working hard and planning out their lives. If we reward people who don’t work hard and plan out their lives with money from those who have worked hard and planned, then we will have more people not working hard and planning their lives. This is why socialism always fails. The rewards and punishments are backwards. We have to follow the LAW.

I read that Texas has more people on Medicaid than Iowa, Arkansas, or Mississippi have people.

The numbers are astounding.

And for every one of those I can show you two homeless shelters where they trade stories on how to screw the system.

I've worked with them (the homless and disabled) for the past fifteen years in one shape or form, and I stand by PGR88's assessment.

You have to be elderly to qualify for Medicare. If you happen to get poor before growing old, you go on Medicaid.

No, moron.

You qualify for Medicare because you're old and paid for it all your life.

You get Medicai because you're neither old, nor ever paid a cent, but learned how to game the system and how to have the working taxpayers support you.

Depends on the state:
GA:
You think you are pregnant
You are a child or teenager
You are age 65 or older
You are legally blind
You have a disability
You need nursing home care

As I understand it, one is ineligible from 19 to 65 unless one is blind, disabled or pregnant. In general, Adults 19 to 65 need not apply.

You need to volunteer more helping the truly needy. Drop in on the local developmentally disabled day care and see if you can help them some way. You'll meet some truly needy people that need that program and aren't just scamming it.

That is a minuscule percentage of the total; You know that and I know that.

We know damned well, those are NEVER counted among the leeches and the parasites.

Check on the explosion in the number of "disabled" persons in the last 4 years and we can go from there.
Flying saucers?

My first hand experience is typical.

I met someone who was close to illiterate, but able-bodied, and unemployed for years now.
His wife is on disability.
He is currently applying for permanent disability.

He and his wife went to a casino a recent weekend. His wife lost $500 and had to phone her sister to send her money to get home. He related he was pissed.

These people are so sure of their right to entitlements, that he had no hesitation in telling me his exciting story. We were strangers two months before.

You have a point on that one. I didn't factor that one in.

I should have said honest persons between 19-65 need not apply. :)

There is a difference between estate planning and Medicaid fraud. Go look it up.

I don't know that. As far as I know, most people on Medicare are truly poor.

Oh I don't know, maybe 25% unemployment?

Raise the import tariffs back up that our founding fathers had in place and put Americans back to work, working for Americans.
