Mitt Romney has fewer votes than John McCain received in 2008! Republicans stayed home!
As of right now, Romney has close to 56,000,000 votes nationwide. In 2008, John McCain had nearly 60,000,000 votes. (Per Wikipedia)
It looks like if all the people who voted for McCain turned out again and voted for Romney, we would have been rid of the Kenyan once and for all.
People stayed home.
It looks like all the Freepers who said they'd never vote for Mitt were not making idle threats
Romney votes will be a little more than McCain when it’s all done.
Obama’s will be down a few million.
Problem is the difference is not enough to change the result of an Obama victory.
We simply do not have the votes. A few million people were turned off Obama and didn’t bother doing the hope/change thing this time. But we are capped at 60 million. And if we get a true conservative in there it will add votes but lose just as many of the “moderate” Republican voters.
We have a Catch 22 with warring camps within our party. They have a motley crew of disparate grievance groups who don’t get offended when the other parts of their coalition are pandered to.
In sum - we’re screwed and this was our last best hope and it will never shift back
isn’t it obvious yet that the election was manipulated by the crook in chief. Do you really think republicans stayed home after 2010
How could someone NOT go vote against Obama? Regardless of Mitt not being conservative enough. Four more years of this might end the Republic. 21 trillion in debt, amnesty, executive orders, 2 libs on Supreme Court? Game over.
Good point though re turnout being lower. People are giving up. Like the fake 8% unemployment when it’s really 15%, people are checking out of the democracy.
How could he? His whole strategy was to attack and smear his opponents. Then when the Big Show came along he put the gloves on !!
I’m a Indie after today.
Where’d they all go? Even if they were turn coats and voted O,they aren't reflected in the totals. FRAUD on a huge scale?
Bingo!
I agree, this doesn’t smell right at all. 2008 took a perfect storm of extremely high Democrat enthusiasm, independent cluelessness, and even a significant number of Republicans swept up in the “hope and change” and “historic presidency” nonsense to get Obama elected. That outcome should have been unreproducible especially given the continued lousy economy and the loss of Obama’s phony messiah aura.
Yet we’re to believe that in a year when Republicans clearly by all accounts turned out in huge numbers the result was the same? Nonsense. Not possible, especially given the huge difference in enthusiasm that every poll showed as well as a complete flip in voter ID, giving the Republicans a record party ID advantage. We’re really supposed to believe that none of those stark contrasts to 2008 made any difference?
I can’t believe I’m saying this because I’m not a conspiracy theorist at all, but the vote tallies and how they came down just felt artificial. There were no surprises that worked to Republicans’ advantage anywhere. No randomness, just a very neat and orderly “programmed” march toward a pre-determined Obama outcome.
I know half the country is crazy these days, but this was just too neat and tidy, all wrapped up with a bow on top.
It looks like the freepers that said that Romney would hurt turnout, were correct.
This took millions of disgruntled conservatives, not a handful of freepers.
The vote count is suspicious, because it doesn’t seem to add up at all. Everyone I’ve talked to says they have never seen so many people voting Republican before, and that’s often in places that were safe for Democrats.
In Washington Romney was slightly leading for awhile, and then all of a sudden Romney added something on the order of about 100,000 votes while Obama added over 600,000 votes. All voting in Wqashington is now by USPS Mail. There are no longer any polling places. It looked very very suspicious.
King County (Seattle) is known for cooking up just as many paper ballots as were needed to win the Governor’s seat everytime some more Republican ballots were recoveered from missing absentee ballot boxes and so forth.
A LOT of votes weren’t counted. Now they never will be.
We all got screwed along time ago, trust me.
Welcome to the new Amerika Comrade
The solution is to stop putting conservatives in the back of the bus and letting them drive the bus.
Not the least bit surprised to see Romney’s turnout down.
You and I know Obama is a phony messiah, but wayyy too many people still believe it. His personal approval has always been well over 50 which was a hurdle. The Sandy news for a week reinforced his fake savior image especially since it was wholeheartedly endorsed by a leading Romney supporter in Christie.
A few million people did check out of voting this year but they were never going to switch to Romney. They hate rich white religious guys
Exactly right, ansel. Several freepers said this would happen, we weren’t happy about it, but we were right.
Question is, where do we go from here? How do we stop another McCain/Romney and energize the base?
It’s amazing isn’t it. You would have thought that none of us said prior to nominating Romney that he would depress the conservative turnout. ;)
Maybe we should stop listening to the folks demanding that we elect Romney because he’s electible and start listening to the folks who warned us about him in the first place.
Recall that ousted Honduran President Manuel Zelaya tried to force the country to put him on the ballot for re-election -- which was illegal under the Honduras constitution.
The Army, at the order of the Supreme Court, ousted him -- and he went into exile...in Venezuela.
Zelaya tried to return and run for re-election anyway. The Army came for himn again...and he fled. But the discovered a laptop that he left behind. The laptop was loaded with "election results" for every precinct in Honduras.
So, now we know how Hugo Chavez always wins his elections...
Real simple.
Nominate a conservative from a solid red state.
Nominate a conservative who’s prolife
Nominate a conservative who supports traditional marriage.
It’s just that simple.
Well now they get 4 more years of the Evil Not Genius Obama
fantastic thanks so much!
From what I saw in NOVA yesterday - and I was at the polls all day - it is the electorate. The majority of women want abortion and big government. 95% of blacks would never vote against a black person no matter what type of failure he is. New immigrants are a massive amount of the electorate here, and they apparently vote Dem. I wasn’t sure of this, because so many are small business owners, but they identify with Obama.
Being a Dem is the easy path - in education, journalism, law, entertainment, government and the trades. That is what gets you handouts, positions and perks. People don’t believe that personal responsibility and self-reliance will get you ahead. Very sobering. I was lucky enough to come of age in the Reagan era. I took it for granted. I love America’s founding principles, but I now realize that the country as a whole is not going to reflect them.
