Runner Eliza Wierzbinska frowns with her marathon number at the Javits Center on Saturday. Even though she lives in New York City, she has sympathy for the runners who traveled in for the marathon and spent a lot of money to get to the Big Apple.
Marathoner Heather Nerhood, after flying in from Texas for the now-canceled race, couldnt just cool her heels Saturday.
Along with hundreds of other disappointed marathoners, Nerhood burned off her frustration by running through Central Park.
We were upset [Friday] because the announcement was made while we were at the Javits Center picking up our bibs, said Nerhood, a 41-year-old kindergarten teacher, referring to Mayor Bloombergs last-minute change of heart that slammed the brakes on the race.

People are freezing to death and starving and these athletes are insulted? Grow up.
Why don’t you go help some people who need help instead of running around the park, you self centered little jerk.
Awwww. Bless their hearts...
I’ll bet they vote Democrat...
A bunch of whiny liberals and smelly foreigners.
Here is my message as a New Yorker to these runners:
Shove it up your asses. Go away and don’t come back. Oh, and thanks for support and compassion you’ve shown to those who have died or have lost everything they have.
“I was robbed”... spoken like a true entitlement whore from another neighborhood. How nice of them to be worried about their “great loss”. Some folks are truly self-centered.
No doubt about it.
I agree.
Oh, and Eliza, you say you have sympathy for those runners who spent money to run the marathon. Where is your sympathy for those who drowned in their own basements? Or the two boys who were swept out of their mother’s arms? Or the two boys who were killed (with one being severed in two) when a tree fell on their house?
Screw you and your elitist, Euro-trash, leftist, godless attitude.
If I saw you in person, I would really want to haul off and punch you in the mouth listening to that comment. You disgust me!
Run back to Texas nitwit.
A selfish attitude on the part of some of the runners but chiefly to blame is Mayor Bloomer for not canceling the race as soon as the scope of the devastation and human desperation became known.
Saw some folks from foreign nations, and others who had come long distances in the U. S. to run. They were interviewed, and to a person, their focus was on the race. “Oh, it’s too bad but we’ll come back next year.” “Oh, we really wanted to run. This makes me unhappy.”
I didn’t see one of them say something like, “The Marathon? My only concern is for the people of the region and how they are doing. This was a terrible storm. Where can I go to help out?”
I’m sure the responses were edited, but geez folks, by a clue.
i dont suppose they vote at all. that would require thinking about somebody else
The key word in the quote is “I”.
Nope, Texas doesn’t want her back!
