Is THIS why Chris Christie was so loving toward Obama?
UK Daily Mail ^ | 11/3/12 | Hayley Peterson

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie was Mitt Romney’s first choice as a running mate before Romney had a sudden change of heart and dumped him for Paul Ryan.

Christie was miffed by Romney’s decision, particularly because he was led to believe in the weeks leading up to Ryan’s introduction that he would be joining Romney on the Republican presidential ticket, Politico reported, citing conversations with ‘campaign insiders.’

I’m thinking this may all come back and bite Obama in the @ss. Christie effectively shielded himself from a lot of criticism in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy by bringing Obama to New Jersey, as things continue to get worse here in this state. The big problem is fuel, and hundreds of thousands of people without power as the season’s first cold spell approaches next week.

This is pure rubbish. There are many factors that go into selecting a VP. First, Christi’s health and weight... could he handle the riggers of campaigning? Just look at Christi after 5 days from going to city, to city, ... he looks terrible. Secondly; could picking Christi be enough to make the race close in NJ? Not a chance. You have two DEM-RAT US Senators because of Hudson County (Jersey City, Union City,) Newark, Elizabeth, Camden, Paterson and Trenton. The selection for Ryan was very wise; Wisconsin is in play, you have a Republican Gov that just survived a recall; and you have Tommy running for Senate.... Ryan is very popular, he’s in good shape, he’s good looking, gives the ticket some young energy.

As for my Governor, giving the pat on the back to Obama... he’s did the right thing by welcoming Obama... if he pulled a Bloomy and said “don’t come” then Obama would have sat out that day, and still gotten back on the trail and NO ONE would have been able to criticize the President for not focusing on the Country’s needs.

If Christie was miffed over not being selected, he wouldn’t have been out stumping for Romney... he would have told him to pound sand.

Christie will never advance in the GOP, especially if Romney loses. Perhaps he will switch to Dem as other north-east GOP traitors are fond of doing.
He needs to attend an over-egos anonymous meeting.

Remember that politico’s last remaining strategy is to depress turnout for Romney. There are no real independents to sway and the Obama-votoing crowds may not show up on election day. So one tactic is to make sure Romney is unappealing to conservatives who don’t like Christie.

Christie said repeatedly, in every venue he could find, that he was NOT interested in the VP slot. On Fox one day he even said, when/if he ever ran, he would be going for the TOP spot.

I think Christie is highly overrated and has been from day one.

A pair of them wouldn't hurt from the looks of him.

I wonder if Kristie Kreme got a job offer from Obomba, perhaps as donut czar?

That's a valid point, but here in New Jersey we have a prominent public figure who is something of a human marvel in purely physical terms: an 88 year-old guy who is in great shape and still goes to the gym every day.

His name is Frank Lautenberg and he's our (very) senior U.S. Senator. He's in such great shape that he represents New Jersey in the Senate even though he died at least a decade ago.

You're telling me an @sshole like that DOES deserve to hold public office?

If true, it shows Romney good sense.

With Christie on the ticket I wouldn't be spending 16 hours a day on this computer supporting Romney. I voted for Ryan, unfortunately Romney comes with the package.

Christie didn't want the job. He figured Romney wouldn't win and wanted to insure that he was reelected for another term as Governor himself. Romney had some hesitation about selecting Christie -- too much of a loose cannon, too large a target (if you know what I mean) -- but Christie signalled that he didn't want the nomination and Mitt's people accepted that.

Arguably, the complicated dance surrounding selection of a running mate may have involved moves that irritated Christie staffers -- if you're not the VP choice you've probably been toyed with, strung along, and used as a decoy -- but if Christie's cuddling with Obama now, it's probably because he thinks it will help his own reelection efforts, not because he wants to get back at Romney.

Christie did it for one reason.

Obama told him if he wants to have the boardwalk by memorial day, he better allow Obama the photo op and get Christie’s praise.

NJ has too much at stake not to suck up to the commie in chief.

It just proves Romney made the right choice. Blubber Butt Christie will probably change to the Democratic party in the next 5-6 years.

New Joisey is a deep blue state like Maryland ,,,, who needs them ??? Christie is an establishment opportunist at best ,,, perhaps Romney will return the favor some day .

I think, the northeastern born and bred are persnickety about the world outside their gates. Ann Coulter sure comes to mind when the name ChrispChristie comes up. I bought literally into her stick until a couple of years ago. Now every-time I think of her I see Bill Mayher's (sp) foul mouth and ugly face.

Something else to consider is that New Jersey is likely to have two Democratic U.S. Senators until the end of the world. That means it will be very easy for Romney to simply write off the entire state when it comes to reaching out to the House and Senate to get things done in Washington.

If you think this isn't a big deal, just realize that McGuire Air Force Base was on the original list of base closure candidates back in the first Bush administration mainly because both senators from New Jersey were Democrats who opposed the Gulf War in 1990. Plattsburgh AFB in upstate New York, though, was slated to remain open even though it had many constraints that made it inferior to McGuire (the inability to move fuel into the facility during winter months when barge traffic on the Hudson River and the Lake Champlain canal system was closed, for example). This was because Plattsburgh had a strong advocate in Washington in the form of Sen. Al D'Amato (R-NY).

Anyone without the discipline and self-respect to keep their weight under 350 pounds, doesn't deserve to hold public office.

Hey, they told me anybody could be president when I was growing up (and eating all those donuts) ...

UK Daily Mail is just quoting he Politico article, the original of which was posted on FR earlier today.

As most posters on the previous thread observed, Politico lies, they’ve always lied, and they’ve been caught red-handed more than a few times.

This is just their pathetic effort to make potential Romney voters angry that he almost picked someone as stupid and pitiful as Christie as his running mate.

Whatever else I may think of Romney, I don’t think he’s that stupid, and his Ryan pick seems to argue in favor of that opinion.
