Even as the lion's share of attention in the presidential campaign goes to the battleground of Ohio and the storm-battered states of the Mid-Atlantic, the outcome to the south, in the nation's largest swing state, now seems very much in doubt.
Mitt Romney moved into a lead here after the first presidential debate, and since then, aides have insisted that Florida, with its 29 electoral votes, sat solidly in their column. But with several polls showing President Obama's fortunes improving here and Democrats performing well in early voting as of Thursday morning, they led by about 59,000 out of more than 3 million absentee and in-person early votes Romney has had to devote precious hours to defending his position in the state.
With polls now in a dead heat, Romney campaigned in Florida on Saturday, returned Wednesday for rallies in Tampa, Miami and Jacksonville, and is expected back over the weekend, when Obama also is scheduled to campaign here.
For Obama, victory in Florida is a prize; for Romney it's a necessity. Debates about whether Romney can carry Ohio or other Midwestern states become moot without a win here.

Yet both Gallup and Pew show Romney leading in early voting.
Agreed! NOT TRUE! Florida is going to Romney.
A co-worker in my office told me that he drove through Old Carrolwood in Tampa and it was a rather long street. Every house on both sides of the street had a Romney/Ryan yard sign in their yards. Another co-worker of mine lives outside of Tampa has a small horse ranch says that everyone in her surrounding neighborhood are all for Romney and are proudly displaying their yard signs for Romney.
Again Florida is going for Romney!!
Agreed. I think I-4 corridor looks good. A recent local media poll showed a lead approximately 52-46. I could be off by a point on either candidate. Have been surprised by the volume of visits by both campaigns this week. I thought FL was sewn up, but early voting opened last weekend, and both sides are still grinding it out for GOTV.
Good grief. I’m so sick of the propaganda.
It’s propaganda. I don’t think our side will fall for it, but their side might think they have it in the bag and decide not to vote. Here’s hoping.
Don't expect final results next week, there is a ruckus coming.
We've moved back out to the country but when I visit that neighborhood I see not a single Obama sign, but I am seeing dozens of Romney signs. I think Obama lost many of the Jewish votes.
McCain was the most pitiful choice since Bob Dole. It’s hard to make a valid comparison.
It is valid when talking numbers right? Regardless of who the candidate was.
You do understand that right.
Down 59,000 in 2012 vs. 370,000 in 2008 is a big improvement, right? Especially when Obama only won in 08 by 240,000.
You would agree correct? Numbers don’t lie.
LOL! That’s true - “pitiful choice” sums it up. I was not even remotely surprised that the GOP lost.
The LA Times.....inventor of “The Magic Negro”.
Propoganda..
Florida isn’t in play anymore for anyone seriously following this race it left the table weeks ago.
GOTV!! Fight like its neck and neck, but this is going to be a slaughter folks..
This seems to be the same thing in Ohio. Either the Obama voters are too ashamed to put their signs out or there really are not that many Obama supporters. I have driven around most of western Ohio and most places I travel to, I have seen the following:
- If a person has a Romney sign, they usually have MANY signs in their yard! To me this means high enthusiasm to vote.
- Yards that I do see with Obama signs, I usually only see the Obama sign and maybe a Sherrod Brown sign.
Why do we care about the accuracy of predictions?
Are we looking for an excuse to sit on our ass?
GET OUT THE VOTE!!!!
Thoughts?

Obama can’t attract flies in Miami/Dade ,, he’s flat there where in 2008 it was something like 68/32.. in the I-4 corridor it’s Romney by a bunch and North FL won’t be spooked by a bad TV call early in the evening ..
Just a little (more) media cheerleading for Bonzo.
But anyone who thinks that FL (or VA or NC) is somehow a LOCK for Mitt is nuts. Of course there will be vote fraud (there already is), of course the final outcome will be close, and that’s all the LAT article is really saying. Which means it’s saying nothing any realist doesn’t already know.
People who think that Romney absolutely, unquestionably has Florida in the bag need to reduce the sugar content of their kool-aid or they risk crashing real hard on Tuesday night.
I believe our Sunshine state WILL go strong for Romney. We have three more days and we can still help by reaching out to those we know who are Obama supporters and who have not yet voted.
EVERY AMERICAN should be outraged about the fact that the blood of four Americans is on Obama’s hands! Most of you probably saw the following interview of Catherine Herridge on Greta, but if not please see below. Then send it far and wide! Also watch for more to come out about Benghazi over the weekend. Thanks!!

SecDef Panetta says that we do not send troops into harm's way. If that is true, then we do not need a military, because the sole purpose of the military is to go into harm's way! [Not as 'Meals-on-Wheels']
BAH! HUMBUG!
