We are Katrina says one desperate resident. Everyone cares about Manhattan. No one is looking out for us.
At a 12-unit apartment building at West 23rd near Mermaid Avenue in Coney Island, several tenants are huddled together in one room where human waste is spilling out of the toilet. They need help, and are at a loss explaining why assistance is getting to them faster.
"We have no food or water. Why isn't anyone helping us," asked tenant Aeising Cancel.
"We are scavenging for food like animals," said another tenant Jeffery Francis. "We are in a crisis and no one will help us. Look at us. We are misery. Everyone cares about Manhattan. No one is looking out for us. Nothing. We are Katrina."
At an apartment building at 3024 W 23rd the power is still out and residents are out of food.
"The food is gone. We are scrapping for food. One person found a sandwich and we split it four ways," said resident 58-year-old Albert Miller

And yet Obama Christie and bloomie are taking victory laps all over the place.
True. This will be especially hard on the elderly.
Obama said FEMA will respond within 15 minutes. Just call them.
Right?
What doesn’t kill us can make us stronger. Learn from your mistakes and next time do some prep.
They should thank God they live in New York, the center of the galaxy
They have a progressive Mayor. They live in Utopia.
Why are they bitching?
Screw ‘em
They probably ran out of canned food (if they had any); perishables are going bad due to lack of electricity. I have a week’s worth of food left (the last 3 days would be MREs); thankfully we have power & water.
Nothing as dire as the Katrina freak out.
I can't wait for the leftists to ask us how we expect Obama to handle a natural disaster of this magnitude, totally without irony.
Sadly beyond words, they probably haven't the foggiest how plumbing / toilets work.
Unprepared-people ping!
Obviously they will look for the nearest Republican to blame for their suffering.
And they’re so much smarter and creative than us suburban dullards out here in fly-over country.
Why would they think that?
Oh, I forgot - they just "know" it.
Interesting that the people whose homes burned to the ground in nearby Breezy Point aren't complaining about people only caring about Manhattan.
Oddly, all the Russians in the Coney Island/Brighton Beach area don't seem to be scavenging for food or sleeping next to overflowing toilets.
I guess everyone cares about everywhere, except for the entitlement Queens in Brooklyn's 9th Ward.
It isn't fair that those Russians are willing to walk 50 blocks to buy groceries and carry them home.
It isn't fair that so many Russians work for a living that they know how to do simple plumbing repairs.
It is fair that those Irish people in Breezy Point walked three miles to sleep in a church basement.
It's because "those people" are so damned self-reliant that no one is willing to serve me breakfast in bed.
The problem here isn't their overflowing toilet, it is their overflowing heads. Obama voters - no doubt.
Hang in there folks, Obama’s sending the Gov’ment to help!
Exactly. Maybe Fox will send Shep down there so he can rant on national TV about the conditions.
The horror, nothing but a large stove, to use for heat for a few days.
Nothing to eat for a few days, but what you already had in your kitchen, if you can't reach the restaurants a mile or two away.
These aren't exactly road warrior types.
You're to (sic) dumb to understand the sewers are backed up?
time for obama’s legion to ship a whole bunch of these helpless govt wards to those FEMA 645 camps
What are they saving them for?
The toilet will not flush because the sewers are full & flooded. Flushing only causes the toilet to overflow.
Beyond that, these people are pathetic. They had ample warning to evacuate or to stock up on food & water. Perhaps a few days of empty bellies will give them a clue about the next storm: You cannot stay in a house that might flood, you MUST move to higher ground & be prepared to stay there for several days.
