The attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi has become a political football in the presidential campaign, with all the grandstanding and misinformation that entails. But Fox News has raised some questions about the attack that deserve a clearer answer from the Obama administration.
Fox’s Jennifer Griffin reported Friday that CIA officers in Benghazi had been told to “stand down” when they wanted to deploy from their base at the annex to repel the attack on the consulate, about a mile away. Fox also reported that the CIA officers requested military support when the annex came under fire later that night but that their request had been denied.
The Benghazi tragedy was amplified by Charles Woods, the father of slain CIA contractor Tyrone Woods. He told Fox’s Sean Hannity that White House officials who didn’t authorize military strikes to save the embattled CIA annex were “cowards” and “are guilty of murdering my son.”

Looking back, it may indeed have been wise not to bomb targets in Libya that night. Given the uproar in the Arab world, this might have been the equivalent of pouring gasoline on a burning fire. But the anguish of Woods’s father is understandable: His son’s life might have been saved by a more aggressive response. The Obama administration needs to level with the country about why it made its decisions.
A final, obvious point: The “fog of battle” that night was dense not just in Benghazi but in Cairo, Tunis and elsewhere. U.S. officials needed better intelligence. That’s the toughest problem to address, but the most important.

It is Hugh that the WaPo has been forced to report on this.
They believe that Obozo is going to lose and no longer feel the need to constantly cover for him.
As Mark Levin just said, “we have the photo op of Obama in the situation room for Hurricane Sandy, where’s the photo from the situation room of Obama on Benghazi???”
OR maybe.... The “FOG OF LIES” that night was dense not just in Benghazi but in Cairo, Tunis and elsewhere. U.S. officials needed better intelligence. That’s the toughest problem to address, but the most important.
I’ve read some sites today that claim this was an Iranian set up. That trained “troops” were just waiting with man pads for US planes to appear. Interesting speculation, eh?
I say they're afraid it could become as big as Watergate and they don't want that to happen to a Democrat.

But they had to agree that Fox et al have a point.
They're essentially asking the White House to answer the questions, make the critics shut-up...and restore their faith.
That occurred to me as well. Not necessarily the Iranian part, but if there are 20K manpads missing, some of them might have been with the attacking militia. A couple of observations:
1) If that was so, the whole operation of feeding arms and trying to buy back arms was fatally flawed
2) Sending the ambassador to Benghazi after pulling his security force a few weeks before was beyond incompetent
3) If we were too afraid to have overhead assets, why were the SEALS painting the mortar with their lasers? It implies the assets were there.
I would think there are alternatives to the gunships if someone was interested in helping out the seals, which obviously, no one was.

If anyone knew that then we had enough intel to let Iran know that if there was so much as a twitch out of their fighters on the ground in Benghazi that their city of Qom or a port facility of theirs was going to be reduced to ashes.
For questions to “linger”, wouldn’t they have had to have been raised by the Post in the first place.
Can the Post validly ignore a story and then characterize the questions later as “lingering?”
