Obama and Me: Four Years Later

Obama. Every day is Halloween as I hear Vincent Price echoing that name in my mind like a warning in a horror movie...sure to haunt me until my dying day.

As we near the election, a graduation speech comes to mind: "We've have had a long four years. We've made new friends, and sadly lost some. We've learned a lot about each other and ourselves. We face a future that will be as bright as we ourselves will make it." (You can cast off your robes now.)

In what seems like an eternity ago, before Obama, I was passing people on the roadside holding "Bush lied, people died!" signs. I knew people who held National Security Clearances that expressed, in hushed tones, that they wouldn't mind seeing Bush "gone." Wink wink. My coworkers excitedly flipped pages in their "Days Until Bush Out of Office Countdown Calendars" as if they were doing their bit for world peace, and the lion would soon lie down with the lamb.

In the years after the terrorist attacks in 2001, conspiracy theories and websites flourished, blaming Bush and his evil cohort, Dick Cheney. "Steel doesn't melt!" I knocked my head against the wall until it hurt. What would happen during the next administration if people were already this far gone?

In 2007, I began to hear rumblings about a presidential nominee -- a rising star who had energized the Democratic National Convention in 2004. In March 2007, I watched a man named Rev. Jeremiah Wright on Fox News' Hannity and Colmes. For the first time, I heard about Black Liberation Theology, and became alarmed about Obama and his presidential bid.

Your comment reminds us that one of the first orders of business for the new Romney Administration is to fire all of the District Attorneys, the precedent having been set by Clinton.

Since Barak Obama was elected president I have been told: I can’t talk about the president or I am a racist.

I can’t talk about Muslims that murder my fellow countrymen or I am an Islamaphobe.

I can’t talk against the killing of babies or I am uncaring of woman.

I can’t talk about defending my second amendment rights or I am a gun nut.

I can’t talk about Jesus or I am a religious fanatic.

I can’t talk about the the National Education Association (the countries largest public employees union) or I am against children.

I can’t talk about illegal immigration or I am mean spirited.

I can’t talk about homosexual behavior or I am a homophobe.

I can’t talk about animals rights groups becoming Democrat party zealots or I am inhumane.

I can’t talk about my U.S Constitutional rights or I am a revolutionary.

I can’t talk about Russia still being led by the former head of the KGB or I am living in the 1980”s.

I can’t talk about the religion of atheism or their having control over my government or I am a radical.

Oh! I almost forgot, I can’t talk about my 1st Amendment rights.

The common theme is I CAN’T TALK, or maybe more accurately, is I can’t voice a conservative side to any issue or I will be labeled a nut. Hateful attacks by the kinder and gentler folks I may have offended will probably now begin.

It’s a glorious day for Freedom, sin’t it?
