This Is What You Should Have At Home When The Frankenstorm Hits

There's a real possibility that Hurricane Sandy, aka the "Frankenstorm", could cause serious disruption to major metropolitan areas in the North East states in the next few days.

As such, its better to be over-prepared than under-prepared. NYC.gov has some suggestions for a Emergency Supply Kit that you can keep at home:

One gallon of drinking water per person per day Non-perishable, ready-to-eat canned foods and manual can opener
First aid kit
Flashlight*
Battery-operated AM/FM radio and extra batteries (you can also buy wind-up radios that do not require batteries)
Whistle
Iodine tablets or one quart of unscented bleach (for disinfecting water ONLY if directed to do so by health officials) and eyedropper (for adding bleach to water)
Personal hygiene items: soap, feminine hygiene products, toothbrush and toothpaste, etc.
Phone that does not rely on electricity
Child care supplies or other special care items

There's also some suggestions for a "go bag" that could be taken with you in the case of an evacuation:

Copies of your important documents in a waterproof and portable container (insurance cards, photo IDs, proof of address, etc.)
Extra set of car and house keys
Credit and ATM cards and cash, especially in small denominations. We recommend you keep at least $50-$100 on hand.
Bottled water and non-perishable food such as energy or granola bars
Flashlight
Note: Traditional flashlight bulbs have limited lifespans. Light Emitting Diode (LED) flashlights, however, are more durable and last up to 10 times longer than traditional bulbs.
Battery-operated AM/FM radio and extra batteries
Keep a list of the medications each member of your household takes,

Probably true. We have it in a spare room and is not our every day phone. But I do recall a while back when our electric was out, and our digital phones were inoperable. I heard something ringing which was the old princess. Lol

You would be surprised how many people forget that their cordless phones won’t work if the power fails and the landlines are still working. I have my old black AT&T rotary phone that I keep in my “hurricane box.”

Don’t forget all those boxes of tissues, that will be necessary, because the Obama-bots could not be bussed to the polling precincts, in time!

Yes, the concensus has it that there is indeed a firearm missing from the list.

I can’t believe that the dot gov chicken littles are telling folks that LED flashlights are better than incandescent bulb models. I have yet to see an LED model, with the same heft and feel of a larger-than-two-cell maglite. I have both kinds, both made by maglite, and here is a small truth. The LED model washes out detail, that the incandescent shows! It is known that the incandescent light penetrates through inclement weather better than an LED light. But, for the next few days, it is not the amount of light the maglite produces, but the amount of resistive force delivered, when used by the homeowner against an uninvited guest!

Only true if you have copper direct from the CO to your phone and nothing happens to the CO and it’s generators.

In more suburban/rural areas they have a SLC, which has fiber from the CO then translations to copper to the homes. Those require power in the field and are typically backed by batteries only. Same whit CabelCo services, though those typically also require power at the home.

I prefer the AK have at least 4 30-round magazines & a side folding stock . Re4d dot sight is optional ,a Scoped FN-FAL with 5 20-round magazines is also a nice option as well.

That’s why I wrote “old land lines”. No fiber - all copper.
