SOUP FOR THE TROOPS

WELCOME TO THE

(where our troops, allies and their families can refresh themselves)

Good morning, Everyone.
Good morning to our

Military, our Allies, and their families.

Thank you, Ma, for preparing the Canteen for today's activities
Another nice visit with the troops.

DC METROLAND WEATHER

~ Today...Some clouds this morning will give way
to generally sunny skies for the afternoon.
High around 75F. Winds E at 5 to 10 mph.

~ Tonight...Partly cloudy skies this evening
will become overcast overnight.
Areas of fog developing with patchy drizzle possible.
Low around 60F. Winds E at 5 to 10 mph.

Soooo, we have to keep an eye on Sandy.
Long term predictions is that she may veer
toward the MD/VA or DE/NY
area early next week.

Making Z Zoup
A sprinkle of this...a splash of that...

Tourists visiting Iceland should know
that tipping at a restaurant is considered an insult.
(any Icelander FReepers who can confirm this one?)

High temperatures can make rubber or plastic grips
on tennis, golf, or racquetball equipment totally unusable.
Avoid storing racquets or golf clubs
in your vehicle's trunk, particularly during the summer.

Because of their acute sense of smell,
dogs are trained to sniff out everything from drugs to bombs to iron ore.
In Ontario, Canada, instruments couldn’t locate where natural gas
was escaping from a pipeline buried 18 feet underground.
Trained German shepherds were brought in.
The dogs worked in sub-zero temperatures and
covered nearly 100 miles of frozen ground,
ultimately finding more than 150 gas leaks.

It has been estimated that at least a million meteors
have hit the Earth's land surface,
which is only 25 percent of the planet.
Every last trace of more than 99 percent of the craters
thus formed has vanished, erased by wind, water,
and living things.

The Himalayan scenes in the 1937 Lost Horizon,
director Frank Capra later revealed,
were shot with real snow and real ice —
inside a huge cold-storage warehouse.

The FR Canteen is ALWAYS

OPEN

I'll be around for a bit this morning.
Waiting for walk buddy to show.
But, if FR starts with this "time out" thing again...
Please stay right where you are.
Keep the troops entertained and the Canteen clean...
Cause...if you don't...I'll tell Ma!

Very interesting!!

You are long gone, but I’m finally able to get on a bit.

Have a great Thursday evening.
