Just 50 years after ending its notorious segregation policy, Ole Miss finally has a black homecoming queen. The school just crowned Courtney Roxanne Pearson as their queen, with the student receiving the crowning during the halftime ceremonies of the Ole Miss-Auburn football game.

“I am still in shock, but I am definitely very excited,” said Pearson.

Comment 2 was removed. And posters have asserted that she was chosen ONLY because she was black.

Wow, a lot of douchey comments here. Did it occur to anyone that while yea, she is rather large, she could be well loved and popular and that is why she won?

On a campus with 20,844 students, I guarantee to you that only a tiny fraction of the people who voted for her knew her personally, or even had spoken one sentence to her. The vast majority of students would know nothing at all about her EXCEPT for the superficial aspects of appearance and race.

Did they ever patch up the bullet holes in the Lyceum columns? (I spent a year in Oxpatch back in the early 80s)

Perhaps a vote cast for Courtney is meant to asuage the guilt of one’s coming vote for Romney?

I went to a small, private school, and I still don’t remember voting for homecoming queen. Pretty sure I didn’t care ;-).

It’s sad that such obesity has become so commonplace. Take a look at any high school annual or elementary class photo from the 50’s, and it’s hard to find anyone who we would now consider fat.

I am an Ole Miss grad from many years ago.

I have kinfolk passing thru there now.

There are overall conservative but on race that have been totally brainwashed to accomodate to the extreme even though many live in areas where they deal with black crime and corruption as a daily fact of life that most freepers are totally ignorant of except what they see on TV.

it’s ridiculous and strange

racially whipped white kids even if they still do right on the larger questions

in my day we got along and they had some blacks in most popular or most handsome or beautiful categories

but not at 400 pounds

I graduated in 1981

I think what happened here is not because the youhg lady is black, it is because she is so large.

The picture does not appear here on this page, so when you hit the link you expected to see a gal like Mia Love or Vanessa Williams. Both more the Homecoming Queen type we all have known to be in the past.

This gal is cute, but it was a shock because biguns have never usually gotten the Homecoming Queen crown.

The health consequences and social cost of sexual activity outside marriage are at least as great as the costs of excessive eating ... but you don’t hear many people discussing that aspect of “self-control.”

A person can be just about any kind of degenerate creep, but usually it doesn’t show on the outside. The only vice that’s so visibly obvious and open to ridicule is overeating.

It does seem nowadays that you see a lot of Homecoming elections turn into a farce, with people just voting for non-conventional candidates just for the heck of it, nobody takes it seriously anymore.

Indeed. They do the same thing in the Presidential race.

It is frightening how many people vote for Obama and pay no attention to who he is or what he does.

Many college kids don’t even know who Biden is...uh well, maybe that is a good thing. LOL

Hey, thanks, but several others have provided pix of the lovely runner-up. The mind boggles. Or maybe it curdles.
