Millennial generation could kill the NFL
ChristianScienceMonitor ^ | October 19, 2012 | Morley Winograd and Michael D. Hais

Many protective mothers and fathers of Millennials aren't allowing their kids to play tackle football because of health risks. These attitudes could close the NFL’s pipeline to many talented players. But these concerns also have the potential to change the violent NFL culture for the better.

Professional football has been America’s favorite spectator sport since 1972 when baby boomers became the most important TV audience demographic. Steve Sabol, the genius behind NFL Films that helped to popularize the NFL in the 1960s, captured the drama and danger of pro football with his slow motion films of big violent hits backed by stirring music.

Pro football, depicted by Mr. Sabol as a confrontation between good and evil in which there can be only one winner, matched the values of baby boomers a half century ago. But this focus is not as appealing to the Millennial generation with its focus on win-win solutions and an instinct for avoiding confrontation.

“Never liked football. It wouldn’t break my heart to see it replaced with a sport with cultural value, like women’s nude beach volleyball.”

“But the thing you don’t realize is that there’s good naked and bad naked. Naked hair brushing - good. Naked crouching - bad.”

Yes, they should be shot. It’s bad enough in football but they do it with all the horses racing with pink saddle cloths. Makes it a real pain to watch the horses since a pink saddle cloth is for the horse in the 8 post.
I won’t support Susan Korman because of their support of PP.
But the all pink saddle cloth day. Is like the evil pink frosting on my cake on non-support.

All it means is that the NFL will be like the NBA... Eric Holder’s people only.

I’ve always had a strange reaction to it too. I mean, it’s not like I like cancer or anything like that because they wear pink, it just rubs me the wrong way because it seems that some diseases now are in vouge.

My daughter tried that. Both of my grandsons played on elite kids soccer teams but I could see that the older one didn’t have his heart in the game. He decided ,this summer, that he would try football and loves every minute of it. He can’t wait to go to practice and talks about the plays incessantly. His brother also decided to try it and was not as enthusiastic but has also come to love the game. You would be amazed at the number of kids on their teams and how much support there is from the parents(grandparents as well).

The NFL pipeline consists of mostly blacks,White Texans, Mormons, and blue collar Catholic kids. This won’t change.

Moms steering Pierpont and Foxchase into soccer in suburban Fairfax county are not going to stop Pro Football.

I can see it now; the Minnesota Somali Deadmen vs. the New York Hassidic Joos.
That you be a violent game of football.

Yeah. At our high school game last week, there were all the players with the pink shirts. Product placement for breast cancer causes right in the middle of the football field? On high school boys who have enough distractions about the female form already?

Doesn’t anybody have a sense of the right time and place any more? Is there nothing that can’t be interrupted by a display of self-congratulatory sympathy? Look for Obama to wear a pink ribbon on his lapel at the next debate, instead of a flag pin.

No, there is a reason Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in the country. It’s physical and competitive, moves along nicely, and has set plays like football.

after the first sack, the Deadmen quit because losing this game is obviously is the Will of Allah.

The Joos never win because all they can do is punt

How many deaths and injuries in football? How many deaths and injuries from automobile accidents? (50,000?). Football isn’t even showing as an outlier statistically when comparing the two. But the mommies don’t think twice about putting their kid in a car . I’m tired of people magnifying trivia and deeming it important. It makes news, but not sense.

Forget about "millenials." I think the NFL is doing a fine job of killing the NFL. Turning the sport into a TV-oriented production has taken the life out of it.

If anyone doubts this, just sit down with a stopwatch and time the game from whistle to whistle. In the course of a 3 to 3.5 hour television broadcast you're going to find that there's only about 12-15 minutes of actual "football" going on.

What a hoax. LOL.

When Baltimore wins, evil wins.

There has never been nor ever will be a more thuggish team in the NFL.

How about the NO Saints? The coach encouraged players to deliberately injure opposing players, and they got a bonus if they did so.

Stay or go, it’s a game, a pimple on the ass of time.

There are much more serious problems that affect our lives and generations that follow than the fate of a commercialized game.

The Fox College Broadcast Team actually does wear Blue Ribbons for that. Evidently Erin Andrews’ father had it.
