A consensus seems to be forming in the press about tonight’s crowd at the Romney-Ryan Rally in Daytona, Beach, Florida (no #s released yet):

There are so many signs, other than polls, that Romney and Ryan are surging and very confident right now. You see the campaign rallies and enthusiasm for R&R that we saw in 2008 for Obama.
Stories are starting to come out about what Romney will focus on as president. And who would be in his cabinet. Tells me that it looks pretty strongly R&R are going to win this.
The signs I saw in 2008 that pointed (unfortunately) to an Obama win, now point to a Romney win. And in the end, I don’t think it will be really close.

If Romney is going to win, he needs to stop doing events in FL and VA and spend all of his time in CO, WI, OH, IA, and NH. And maybe PA. But get out of the South. Romney absolutely must get the RCP average of polls (very accurate, go back and look at 2004 and 2008) down to Obama +2 or less on election day to have a chance in any one state. He needs to figure out how to move WI or OH a couple of points.
I refuse to believe that otherwise Republican voters are backing Obama in Ohio simply because of the GM bailout, but it sure seems like the polls are telling me I’m wrong.
I sure hope you’re right, and I do realize state polls lag national polls, but the Midwestern states are being very, very stubborn. It seems FL, VA, and NC have come back to the fold, and one would think that Romney would be leading by 4 or 5 in Ohio if he’s up by 3 in Virginia, but the polls aren’t showing that. I would sure like someone to spend some time and explain to me what is going on in Ohio.
