COLLEGE STATION - A bomb threat has led to an evacuation at Texas A&M University in College Station.
The university asked students to evacuate "by foot immediately" at around 11:34 a.m. A witness at the scene said students were calmly and slowly evacuating the area.
The evacuation comes a day after Texas State University was evacuated after receiving a similar threat. Three buildings on the campus in San Marcos were evacuated around 9:40, but students were later around to return in the early afternoon.
More details to come.
What is UP with all of these bomb threats?!?! Whoever’s doing it, I hope they catch them and prosecute to the fullest extent.
Someone with a sick sense of humor.
It’s gonna be very busy around there tomorrow. Playing LSU. BIG game.
Right before the big game, tomorrow, against LSU. Prayers up.
Just saw this; called my daughter she is at home and hasn’t left for her afternoon class yet.
Prayers for the safety of the other students.
So the students are to go outside and gather around the spot where the bomb is planted?
I’m inclined to tell the caller to go ahead and push the detonator right now. We will evacuate after the bomb goes off. Demonstrate that you actually have a bomb, otherwise, I’m going back to work.
Curiously, LSU had a similar threat called in just a few weeks ago.
Mid-terms?
Wow, prayers that all get away safely and it is just an empty threat.
It's a common college stunt done by students who aren't prepared to take an important test. Before 9-11, it was just a local story and rarely noticed because it was 99% hoax.
Now, it's a big deal just like when anyone walks on campus brandishing a gun. There was a time when it was no big deal.
My friend is there getting ready for tailgating. Said they won’t let them leave in vehicles, only on foot.
So, they’re just walking as far as they can.
Well, one thing we can be sure of is that the bomb threat didn’t come from the LSU football team. They have no idea what a bomb is.
Times are definitely much different now. Not just 911, but flat out crazy people.
A very sick sense of humor. The escalation of what is done as a “prank” is very disturbing. Of course, I don’t discount the possibility that groups that hate our country are behind it.
There was one in my hometown a couple of months ago...at the highschool...and there was one yesterday at Wal-Mart in a town just south of me (by 10 miles).
Either someone is being VERY bold with a sick sense of humor...or terrorists are probing...checking out evac and response times.
I know what you mean. My neighbor’s daughter is a Junior there, and many other friends have kids at A&M also.
This is mild compared to “swatting”, and will never go away. The first time people die in a bombing in which a warning had been received and ignored, the host site will be sued into oblivion.
I realized this one day when I was in Manhattan a few years after 9/11 for a seminar; I was asked to open my trunk by a parking-garage attendant to check for explosives. At that point I saw that these changes are permanent; they will never go away.
