A Republican polling firm has GOP Rep. Todd Akin up by four points over Democratic incumbent Sen. Claire McCaskill in their hard-fought Missouri Senate race.
Mr. Akin led his opponent 49 percent to 45 percent in a survey conducted for the Citizens United Victory Fund by Wenzel Strategies, one of just two polls to give him the upper hand after his party all but abandoned him in August for his widely condemned comments that victims of "legitimate" rape are unlikely to become pregnant.
That's because Mr. Akin led among independents by a 50 percent to 41 percent margin, according to the pollster. He also appeared to have stronger support from his own party. Eighty-four percent of Republican respondents said they would vote for him, compared to 82 percent of Democrats for Mrs. McCaskill.
Both candidates are struggling with their likeability quotient. Despite Mr. Akin's well-chronicled troubles, Mrs. McCaskill appeared even less popular with voters, viewed unfavorably by 52 percent of respondents, compared to 49 percent who said they did not like Mr. Akin.
Most polls had shown Mrs. McCaskill holding about a six-point lead over Mr. Akin over the last few weeks, after the congressman lost major ground in the wake of his rape comments. While national Republican Party officials still refuse to back him, more GOP-affiliated and social conservative groups have since lent him a hand, still hoping to turn around a race that could help the party win control of the Senate.

Maybe Tokyo Rove should go on Missouri TV and bad mouth Akin. That would insure a landslide for Akin.
Karl Rove, Reince Preibus, and John Cornyn deeply troubled.
Also the GOPe.
Mr Akin, when made The Comment I thought you were finished. I was wrong. I apologize.
Best of luck on November 6th!
Add Anne Coulter to the list — the frightened foursome.
And the GOPe -- ((crickets))
If this is true, it bodes well for the GOP overall in Missouri. We need every seat we can get and vote possible
How great would it be to see McRascal put out to pasture.
An awful lot of Freepers jumped on board the left wing propaganda train. I’m glad to see that seems to have calmed down. But it’s bothersome that people would so easily let themselves be manipulated by the left.
Which is worse, a minor scientific mistake in a minor verbal gaffe? Or killing every baby in sight?
Moreover, which is the worst scientific mistake: believing the statement that you read someplace that raped women are less likely to conceive, or believing the liberal lie that the fetus is not a human being?
We should never let the liberals write the rules and preside over the language. Akin has a splendid, solid conservative record that goes back a long way. And he’s to be thrown to the dogs because of one minor verbal error that the left wing media played up? Akin is not only better than his opponent, he’s better than most of the GOP candidates who are currently running for office. Not all of them, but most of them. Because the GOPe is still desperately holding on to control of the party.
If you want Obamacare repealed, you have to support Akin.
If you are against sex selection and partial birth abortion, you have to support Akin.
If you want to continue to keep and bear arms, you have to support Akin.
If you want two to four new Supreme Court judges who believe in the parts of the Constitution that are inconvenient to liberals, and who wont find hidden new provisions that miraculously support the liberal agenda, you have to support Akin.
I think the Senate will be REPUBLICAN...
He’s very lucky he made his dumb remark back in August. Gives people an opportunity to react and then have second thoughts.
As opposed to the Benghazi cover-up, which is just now coming out in the MSM. Very bad timing for O.
FWIW, I had also read the bit about rape victims being less likely to get pregnant. Researched it and found out it is apparently just not true.
I also believe his poor choice of wording about “legitimate rape” was meant to convey approximately the same idea as Whoopi’s “rape rape.” That is, forcible rape as opposed to statutory rape, which were valid distinctions for the point each was trying to make. Though in Whoopi’s case an irrelevant point, since the rape at issue was forcible.
Actually, it is true if you adjust for age and birth control use. But it was still a stupid comment. Nonetheless, a good bumper sticker slogan would be:
Akin votes the way Coulter talks. If I had a vote in that election it would be an easy decision.
IMO, many were based on Akin’s religiosity.
By the outcry one could easily believe Akin had actually committed rape himself. BUT NO that was a keynote speaker at the RAT convention impeached rapist WJC aka the SLICKSTER.
“Yes, there was quite a large tribe of Freepers who piled on. At this forum we read the most horrid insults, the sort reserved for the worst of the rats. IMO, many were based on Akins religiosity.”
I don’t think it had to do with his religion so much as the fact that we have a whole lot of sunshine conservatives and liberals around here. And some closet leftists.
I’m routinely attacked for my unwillingness to support or vote for the liberal willard. But that’s fine; I’m so used to it that it just doesn’t even register much of a reaction by me. I respond to the point and move on. And I have the satisfaction of knowing that when the day is done, they’ll still be liberals trying to explain themselves. And I won’t be.
I had him written off, too. If he pulls this off, you can count me among those who will be eating crow. Heck, from the looks of things, I'd better start checking out some recipes now.
Not that I am going to gloat or anything....
People want leaders with courage who can push past the little made-up press dramas.
not pussies who fold under PC duress.
