In a new report heralded by the NRA, the General Accountability Office finds that the numbers of Americans with permits to carry a concealed weapon has surged and virtually every state now allows pistols to be carried under garments or even in a car glove box.
"The number of states allowing concealed carry permits is increasing," said the GAO.
The report included two shocking numbers:
-- There are currently 118 million handguns in America, either owned or for sale.
-- Some 8 million Americans already have a concealed carry permit, about 1 million more than previously thought.
The report found that permits are not available only in Washington, D.C. and Illinois and that some states have huge populations of conceal carry permit holders. For example, in South Dakota and Georgia, about 10 percent of the population has a permit. In Virginia, 279,000 have them but in Maryland only 12,000 can legally carry a concealed weapon.

In other news, the EPA is warning the WH that huge amounts of metal ‘suddenly’ ending up in the nation’s waterways could adversely effect water quality were they to push civilian disarmament....

During the WWII Solomon Islands campaign there was “Iron Bottom Sound,” appropriately named for all the ships that were sunk there. By now our repeatded maritime disasters must have created at least 100 “Fiberglass and Aluminum Bottom Sounds.” Unspeakably horrible how so many similar tragedies have struck so many of us.
We need more concealed carry without a permit...shouldn’t be too big a jump for those states that have open-carry now.
The “how”part is easy. The permits are licenses so are in a state data base of one sort or another. Calls to 50, or is it 57?, state secretaries should produce a quick, fairly acurate, answer. The “why” could be a bit more nebulous but it’s fine with me if the gummint realizies just how big a force there is out here to ultimately keep them honest. Funny they didn’t mention longuns, somebody just wants to grind an axe about handguns, I guess, but taken together the country has well over 300 million small arms-——that, incidentally , is more privately owned guns than there are guns of every sort in the rest of the world-—including everyone’s militaries. I think they are lying (or just full of krap) about the number of handguns tho. We’ve made that many new ones in just the past 20 years. This is why there will never be any kind of door-to-door eforcement of any of Obama’s nonsense-——can you imagine the recruitment poster for door knockers? “the gummint wants YOU-—to knock on doors of armed citizens”.
When I was in college I read about study after study that was used to explain how despotic regimes had for centuries gotten people to do inhumane things to their fellow man.
It’s not that difficult.
Add to that the number of sick liberals (redundant, I know) that want nothing better than to stick it to everyone else. What most people don’t realize is that we are now into our 2nd generation of sociopaths. 2 generations of people raised with no social conscience. There’s a sh*tload of them out there. And they are just itching to “get even” with all of us.

What a pisser; 118 million handguns in the US, and mine fell in the lake on my last fishing trip.
Shouldn’t the GAO be hunting down lost and stolen taxpayer dollars or something useful like that?
