ACHIEVING an IQ score higher than Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking seems almost impossible, but not for one young girl.
Northwood College School pupil, Fabiola Mann, of Harrow on the Hill, scored a remarkable IQ of 162 in this summers University of Londons (UCL) Mensa medical test. It is the highest possible score anyone can achieve in the UK and European test. The 15-year-old beat physicists Stephen Hawking and Albert Einstein, who both scored 160 when they took it.
Being a whizz kid at puzzles and mathematical tests, Fabiola decided to give it a go, she sat the test on July 30 at UCL in Gower Street, central London, and received her results on August 20, she said: When I got the results I couldnt believe it. The three-hour test was quite intimidating as it was in a very formal setting. There were about 30 other people taking the test and with the exception of one other candidate they were all adults in their 20s and 30s.
Mensa is a society for people with a high IQ, to take the three-hour test you have to be over 10-years-old. The scoring is amended marginally for 10 to 18-year-olds who can score a maximum of 162. Those over 18 can only score a maximum of 161.
After completing her GCSEs and A-levels, Fabiola wants to study medicine at Cambridge University. She said: I am excited to explore the new possibilities that something like this has opened up for me, beating Einstein and Hawking is pretty scary, I dont think I will ever be able to measure up to what they have achieved but I hope to achieve my dream of being a successful doctor and helping others.
Along with being a fan of science fiction books, Fabiola loves to play chess and martial arts.
Fabiolas mother, Rene Mann, 46, said: As parents we are very proud of Fabiola and we hope she will be able to use this gift in a meaningful way that helps others and utilises her potential.
The headteacher of Northwood College, Jacqualyn Pain, said: I was delighted to hear about Fabiolas success. At Northwood College we focus on raising young women who know their own minds and are creative and flexible thinkers, as well as being able to achieve outstanding results. We are all thrilled with Fabiolas achievement. Fabiola received her official certificate on Wednesday last week.
Rational thinking is a rare trait. We are all victims of emotion overtaking rational thought - look at the Libs, it is terminal for them.
AS I said, with such questions you must get to what is actually being asked...careful attention to this will raise your score on any IQ test. This is one reason they are limited, because some people realize this and others do not.
What is asked here is, given two point separated by two miles, if it takes 4 minutes to go halfway can you cover the entire distance in exactly 4 minutes? Obviously not since even at light speed you cannot cover the remaining mile in 0.0 minutes. You could get very close but that is not good enough :-) i.e 29.99999...Avg Mph
The time factor is implicit in the phrase “average speed” i.e to have an average speed of 30mph you must cover two miles in exactly 4 minutes.
BTW, tho other question, the one that stumped Einsteins friend was this. (it seems rather simple to me)
2.Comparing Discounts Which price is better for the buyer, a 40% discount or two successive discounts of 20%?
“...scored a remarkable IQ of 162 in this summers University of Londons (UCL) Mensa medical test. It is the highest possible score anyone can achieve in the UK and European test.”
That’s only because they haven’t measured Joe Biden yet.
I only post on IQ threads because I like the term “standard deviation.”
“Well the I’ve enjoyed my career in Music, but now really regret ever having played a note. comment makes me sad.”
Ahh,,,, But I was born to be an Architect. Git the highest score ever achieved on the Architectural Aptitude Test. Kent State actually used my designs for a modular school building. Several were built in Ohio, and I don’t know where else. They never even informed me!
PLEASE tell me that the correct answer is “30mph”!
40% discount is better
no it is not 30 mph
There is no answer, that’s the point of the question (which i just got (not on my own)
Exactly what I was thinking.
Now... the exact number is unknown, due to the fact that the vehicle wouldn’t really have instantaneous acceleration.
The ‘time’ might help calculate the delta of the acceleration but that would only help on the uphill side.
Time is given in both cases, as speed is defined by ‘distance and time’ (mph).
Assuming ideological (and impossible) conditions...
1 mile at 15 mph +
1 mile at x mph = (15+x)/2
(15+x)/2=y
Given y=30
x=45
So.... what are we missing ?
Sheldon Cooper has a higher I.Q.
meaning the return trip has to be instantaneous
I got the same answer but now I’m stumped on how I can achieve instantaneous, I’m still working on it. The car is still at the top of the hill.
And just where does it state that the trip has to be completed in four minutes?
Where does it say you only have four minutes ?
Oh, that's nothing. A couple of years back, we had a FReeper who claimed to have an IQ of 170. This same FReeper lost a $40,000 civil case, countersued the State of Washington for $15 million for being in collusion with the winning side based solely on a "knowing look", and predictably lost every appeal. He then tried to make a citizens' arrest against state Supreme Court Justice CJ Alexander, on RICO charges for not hearing his final appeal.
Let's just say that IQ numbers aren't all they're cracked up to be.
I don't know who she is, but I like her. :)
Good/funny story, thanks for sharing it.
True, but this was on the UK scale, different from the US scale.
You’ve got me scratching my head here and laughing. How can the car make it?
