The Dallas mother who confessed to gluing her toddler to the wall then beating her as potty training punishment was in court Tuesday for a second day of testimony in her sentencing hearing.
Prosecutors were seeking 45 years in prison for 23-year-old Elizabeth Escalona but she could spend the rest of her life in prison on the felony injury to a child conviction, the Dallas Morning News reported.
The grandmother of the girl, Ofelia Escalona, was expected to testify Tuesday against her daughter.
Barton fought back tears while testifying. It's been more than a year since she first saw 2-year-old Joselyn Cedillo in intensive care. She says the toddler was brought into the emergency room on September 7, 2011 with extensive bruising. The little girl was clinging to life.
"The child was brought in by a private vehicle with extensive trauma. It looked like the child had been abused and wasn't sure the child was going to make it. She had bruising on her belly," said Barton.
Barton also showed pictures of the little girl's injuries during the sentencing hearing.

Throw the book at her,yes.But,unless the kid died or was crippled,life seems somewhat harsh.Proportionality in sentencing is important for many reasons.Life,or death for killing.Forty years for crippling.Less for what she did...or appears to me to have done.

I see it as attempted murder.
Although it was cruel, I thought the sentence was disproportionate when I read the headline.
But after reading the article, this looks pretty close to attempted murder. From the look of it, it was only luck that the child didn’t die. And she probably would have, if help hadn’t been called and gotten there soon enough.
Enough to justify an attempted murder charge, I should think. With deliberate cruelty.

IF Obamessiah tries to duck the debates or create some phony pretense in order to avoid them like starting a war, bombing an aspirin factory, etc. ...all Romney needs to do is show up wit an "Empty Chair" and hold his own "Eastwood debate" for an hour! Not only will it drive home the point, it will just reinforce the truth: There is NOTHING THERE! Obamessiah is an empty man, in an empty suit, spouting empty words, comprising empty promises, which he HAS NOT and CAN NOT KEEP.
