Reporter Lara Logan brings ominous news from Middle East

This was no ordinary rubber chicken affair. That was my reaction to the extraordinary keynoter at Tuesday’s Better Government Association annual luncheon.

Lara Logan, a correspondent for CBS’ “60 Minutes,” delivered a provocative speech to about 1,100 influentials from government, politics, media, and the legal and corporate arenas. Such downtown gatherings are a regular on Chicago’s networking circuit. (I am a member of the BGA’s Civic Leadership Committee, and the Chicago Sun-Times was a sponsor).

Her ominous and frightening message was gleaned from years of covering our wars in the Middle East. She arrived in Chicago on the heels of her Sept. 30 report, “The Longest War.” It examined the Afghanistan conflict and exposed the perils that still confront America, 11 years after 9/11.

The classic line is that a Conservative is a Liberal who's been mugged.

Logan was repeatedly raped in Cairo by Muslims during the glorious Arab Spring. She is knowledgeable, and not afraid to tell the truth about what she knows.

There is some truth to the adage that a conservative is a liberal that has been mugged. However her “attitude” is totally unacceptable for CBS. She will be “counseled” as a courtesy and will be dismissed if this new perspective persists.

We have been lulled into believing that the perils are in the past: “You’re not listening to what the people who are fighting you say about this fight. In your arrogance, you think you write the script.”

She's speaking directly to the US news media.

I guess Logan doesn't buy the 'twas a film made em riot' line, either.

I keep thinking that Obama has communicated to the Taliban and told them to chill out. At least till after his election when he will have more flexibility.

This should not be a surprise. In many ways, the Afghanistan war is a modern version of the Vietnam war. Hearts and Minds campaigns, Rules of Engagement that hamstring our forces, allowing safe havens, winking at our “ally” Pakistan, a PM (Karzai) who plays both sides, and, of course, a dedicated insurgency with a long term view of victory.

Logan even called for retribution for the recent terrorist killings of Christopher Stevens, the U.S. ambassador to Libya, and three other officials. The event is a harbinger of our vulnerability, she said. Logan hopes that America will “exact revenge and let the world know that the United States will not be attacked on its own soil. That its ambassadors will not be murdered, and that the United States will not stand by and do nothing about it.”

In the “good old days,” reporters did not advocate, crusade or call for revenge.

In these “new” days in a post-9/11 world, perhaps we need more reporters who are willing to break the rules.

Sounds like Lara has learned a lesson.

Conservatives and patriots could have used her help in the past with disseminating the truth contrary to her employer's socialist/Muslim sycophant agenda.

I would have thought that once we began our nation building operations these 6th century ragheads would start organizing Civitan Clubs, chambers of commerce, and National Tolerance Day marches. “There is this narrative coming out of Washington for the last two years,” Logan said. It is driven in part by “Taliban apologists,” who claim “they are just the poor moderate, gentler, kinder Taliban,” she added sarcastically. “It’s such nonsense!”

She has essentially revealed that the Obama administration, with the complicity of the MSM, has committed fraud on the American people, and that the Obama administration is full of Islamist sympathizers.

I see CBS easing her out for this. Hopefully, Fox will snatch her up. She's smart, honest, and a babe, and would make a good addition to their lineup.
