Sam Donaldson had some harsh words this weekend for President Obama's performance at Wednesday's debate.
Appearing on the syndicated Chris Matthews Show, the former ABC White House correspondent said, "If he comes to the next two debates with the same demeanor, with the same passive resistance, he’s losing" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

It's possibly that big because the president seemed to be on a glide path toward re-election, and all of a sudden here comes the raging bull, Mitt Romney, out of the dock, and the toreador runs for the safety exits instead of counterpunching, instead of getting him hard. What happened to Barack Obama? I'm not certain. I don't know. But I know this: if he comes to the next two debates with the same demeanor, with the same passive resistance, he’s losing.

Obama is to be mocked now, à la post debate, the New Yorker cover, SNL, etc...he’s finished.
I thought the same thing. Same old Obama to me. More smirking and anger but the same old BS non-answers and outright lies. Nothing new.
I guess some just saw it for the first time.

1. It was not a “glide path”. The 2010 election should have been a clear evidence to the contrary.
2. Things have gotten worse since then, on the global and domestic fronts.
3. A clown throwing darts at a decision chart would be a more effective leader.
4. obama just wants to go chill on the beach, and choom.
I’d tell Sam that he’s imagining an Obama that doesn’t exist. Obama’s not a fighter. He may sucker punch but standing there - one on one with an aggressive enemy right in his face- his instinct is to flee.
That is my take also. Obama's shtick in the past has been 'I am an outsider'; 'it is time for Change (and Hope)'; 'I will bring the Change (lower the sea levels, etc)' ...
One might be able to get away with this malarkey when one is new to the scene (although why anyone would swallow this crap from someone who has done nothing in his life is beyond me), but this schtick just does not work when he's been CEO of the Country for nearly 4 years. Yes, Obama and his gang of misfits still try to blame Bush ... but that comes off as very weak.
Obama basically has no message. 'Change and Hope' might con some people the first time it is pitched, but after 4 years it is exposed as the nonsense as it always was...
There are two more Presidential debates. Oct 16th is the Town Hall and the final Presidential debate is the 22nd, it will be on Foreign Policy.
I think this is a liberal “dog whistle”.
What Sam is really saying is, “Look, we can carry this guy’s water, and have, a long, long way. But he has got to give us at least one showing good enough to spin into a plausible good showing. Otherwise, we’re all going to be really, really peeved that he is making us look bad, when we continue to carry his water.”
The next Romney / Obama debate is not this week - it’s next week. This week is Ryan / Biden.
By the time Romney and Obama get back on the stage again, we should have two straight weeks of chatter about how the brilliant liberal democrat Eloi have gotten destroyed in back to back debates by knuckle dragging mouth breathing Morlocks
The folks complaining the most are BIG liberal fans... that’s odd. Could it be a set up for the next debate? Could Obama be as bad as he seems? Is the wagon going over the cliff? Come back next week...
I thought the 2nd debate was supposed to be about foreign policy. Undecided Voters won’t be asking about that will they?
