A new Harvard study has discovered a high incidence of vision problems among men and women who drank three or more cups of coffee a day. The research, published in Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science, http://www.iovs.org/content/53/10/6427.abstract?sid=9dd04ef5-beba-4204-b980-19a9afd4a3aa linked heavy consumption of caffeinated coffee with increased likelihood of developing exfoliation glaucoma, an eye disorder that affects about 10 percent of adults over age 50 and can lead to vision loss or blindness.
Specifically, the researchers reported that adults who drank three or more cups of coffee daily were 34 percent more likely to develop exfoliation glaucoma, compared to those who abstained from coffee. Women with a family history of glaucoma were at the highest risk, with their threat of exfoliation glaucoma soaring by 66 percent if they quaffed three or more cups of java per day.
Heres a closer look at the study and what it means for coffee-lovers.

I’m curious how many in that study use a computer. I’d think staring at a screen for many hours would cause eye problems faster than a pot of coffee would.
BTW, they never mentioned the size of the cup o’ joe.
I’ll have a glass of wine instead.
If I’m awake, the pot is on. Coffee, tea, or water is all that’s on the board.
There, I just tossed out the can of coffee...just like I did with the antibacterial soap that supposedly causes muscle deterioration.
Does the effect stack with, you know, other things that make you go blind?
Ah, come on!
I gave up cigs, now my coffee?
What the hell, is this 0bama’s wife’s idea?
I thought something ELSE made you blind caused hair to grow on the palms of your hand, boy was I fooled.
By the way, Dad’s in his late 80’s and still has vision like a hawk.
How did you do that? That is so funny!
I wonder if they inadvertently were measuring another group of people: programmers, secretaries, and basically anyone whose job is to stare at a computer-screen.
"And then... then they'll come after our coffee Mandrake!!! Well, I suppose being British you're more of a tea drinker..."
LOL! That was so not nice to us visually-impaired folks...
One time we were driving from Florida to Oklahoma. We spent the night in Louisiana. After we got on the road again, Mother suggested we stop for breakfast.
The rest of us were willing to wait until lunch before eating but we went ahead and stopped. I knew the real reason was Mother was having caffeine withdrawal. Sure enough after we stopped and got going again, Mother said that was the best coffee she ever had.
Dear God! If this is true, I’ve been stone blind since I was 20.
Aha! Peter Sellers as Group Captain Lionel Mandrake RAF and Sterling Hayden as Brigadier General Jack D. Ripper USAF from the 1964 film “Dr. Strangelove Or: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb”.
If this is true, I would be as blind as Ray Charles by now.
I’ve been drinking coffee, lots of coffee, since 1948.
I do wear OTC reading glasses but that’s it.
I also learned years ago to ignore ALL studies.
.
I’m sitting on the corner feeling glad.
Got no money coming in but I can’t be sad.
That was the best cup of coffee I ever had.
And I won’t worry about a thing
because we’ve got it made,
here on the inside, outside so far away.
