FBI agents have still not been granted permission to visit the consulate building where the American ambassador to Libya was killed, three weeks after the attack by militants in the eastern city of Benghazi.
An FBI team was dispatched to Libya within days of the attack, in which three other Americans died. But they have been forced to remain in Tripoli as American and Libyan officials argue over the terms under which the two sides will co-operate in the investigation.
The consulate building itself and the accommodation annexe which also came under attack have been left largely unsecured.
"We are getting ready for the FBI team to go to Benghazi and meet with our team, start joint investigations", the deputy foreign minister, Mohammed Abdel Aziz, said on Tuesday.
He had just met Elizabeth Jones, a US assistant secretary of state, sent to Tripoli to negotiate the issue. "We are now in the context of [granting] written permission," he said.
Benghazi's chief prosecutor, Saleh Adam Mohammed, told the Daily Telegraph more than two weeks ago that he was expecting the FBI team to arrive within two days, and said the Libyan authorities fully intended to co-operate with their American counterparts. There has been as yet no explanation for the delay.

First we had Clinton, Susan Rice, and Samantha Powers overrule Robert Gates, Tom Donilon and John Brennan on going to Libya...the men were against it.
Since the debacle we've had Rice, Clinton, Victoria Nuland, and now this Elizabeth Jones person running PR.
The only male I remember also being involved was Philip Reines who could keep himself from angry expletives in arguing with a questioning reporter.
Why do we need to go there to “investigate”? There is nothing to investigate. This is a war and those men were killed in a war action.
No need to investigate. They need to kill. Then leave.

Remember that US ship bombing off of Aden, Yemen over a decade ago...? A muzzie zodiac packed with explosives attacked our ship, nearly sinking it.
Did you know that AFTER the huge explosion the captain STILL forbade the sailors from breaking out LIVE AMMO..?
I’m serious. Ya know why? TO AVOID A TRAGEGY. I’m serious there, too.
In fact some sailors DID run top-side with empty weapons at least to deter follow-up attackers, and in fact there WAS another zodiac that did veer off at the last instant —perhaps after they spotted the armed (?) men.
Had it instead have chosen to attack it’s almost certain the ship would have gone to the bottom.
Think on this bit:
The assault team knew where the secondary safe house was, over a kilometer away. Then, they used accurate, indirect mortar fire walked right on top of the Americans as they sought refuge in the safe house.
That’s an INCREDIBLY sophisticated attack. It probably means:
1) Inside information about the location of the safe house.
2) A spotter with radio contact to the mortar team.
3) Trained mortar teams who can accurately walk in the rounds.
That is a remarkably sophisticated, military style attack. This is not even Al Qaeda’s hallmark; random terror. It is the hallmark of a government sponsored or highly organized and experienced mujahedeen group.
Who trained these guys? Where did they come from? Where are they headquartered? Who funded them? Who gave them information? Where are they now? What weapons did they use? Did they use the weapons we gave them to overthrow Ghadaffi? Did we train them in these exact tactics for the purpose of overthrowing Ghadaffi, and this is blowback?
So many questions, so much stonewalling and so many lies.

This is classic obama lead from behind. Delegating to State when real decisions need to be made.
A real POTUS would have told the Libyans to pound sand while he deployed that Marine quick reaction force to secure the mission and recover any classified material.
This entire episode has been a tragic farce and dark days in American history.
Maybe there's a faction in that country that doesn't appreciate the result...

0bama used this same tactic when Fast & Furious was first revealed.. There’s probably STILL “an FBI investigation” on F&F too! What a great way to put off being accountable for a cover up!
