With the autumn 40 Days for Life campaign just underway, this great news provides more evidence that sustained pro-life presence in front of abortion clinics hurts business, whether we think so at the time or not.
From New York Daily News, October 1, comes this article, the title and subtitle of which provides pretty much all the information you need to know: Sunset Park clinic will no longer offer abortions, instead only outpatient surgical care: Protesters drove away doctors and patients, says clinic owner:
A Sunset Park abortion clinic has shut down after Catholic protesters drove away doctors and patients, according to the owner of the clinic.
The Ambulatory Specialty Surgery Center of Brooklyn on 43rd St., closed earlier this month and will reopen in October as a new medical center providing outpatient surgeries, but not abortion.
Catholic leaders claimed the clinics closure after 22 years as a victory for their anti-abortion effort. Abortion advocates said they had never heard of a clinic in the city closing under pressure from protesters .
Lazar said the clinic tried to provide both abortions and other types of procedures, but doctors and patients refused to cross the throngs of religious protesters who tried to convince them not to go in .
The new clinic slated to open as the New York Center for Specialty Surgery under the direction of a California-based medical firm is undergoing renovations.
So far as many as 20 doctors have expressed interest in working at the new clinic a stark difference from as recently as a month ago when Lazar struggled to find doctors willing to work there.
Monsignor Philip Reilly leader of the group the Helpers of Gods Precious Infants said he has gone to the center every week since it first opened to protest the abortions.
Reilly said both he and local Catholics were so happy, a celebration mass was held on Saturday at St. Michaels Church on the same block as the clinic .
Julie Kashner, president of the Brooklyn and Queens chapter of the National Organization for Women added there are others dealing with the same problem. NOW has planned a rally in support of another medical center offering abortions in Jamaica, Queens also struggling to find doctors and patients.
This clinic was apparently a very big, deadly fish. According to The Tablet:
This was the oldest and largest abortion clinic in New York City and for many years, in the United States, said Msgr. Reilly. I believe more than a quarter of a million unborn children lost their lives there.
WOW terrific graphic. Just stole and put on FB so my libtard former classmates can have strokes lol
Wow! Great news!
:) Love the pic.
I certainly wouldnt want to have surgery at a place of such great evil. How many other people feel the same way I do?
I have mixed feelings. WLOF (Our Lady of Fatima) the Catholic Radio Station in Buffalo used to be an abortion clinic and the "surgery" room is actually their chapel. God can turn evil to good.
Murderers - 0
Babies - 1
Every loss for them is a huge victory for us.
Thank you Lord.
Aha.
Congratulation, people. We shall overcome.
I am glad to hear it will be put to good use. ;-)
Praise the Lord...
And Thank You to these brave and Faithful People of God who never gave up and never gave in.
PRAISE GOD!
A group of us have been praying in front of the Planned Parenthood in Mansfield, Ohio, bi-weekly for 17 years. We are Pentecostals, Catholics and Baptists.
I know God will answer our prayers one day...Murder Inc. will be out of business and the building will be turned into a day care center.
Monsignor Philip Reilly - the leader of the group the Helpers of Gods Precious Infants.
Good work Monsignor Reilly!
Pro-Life bump
Freep-mail me to get on or off my pro-life and Catholic List:
Please ping me to note-worthy Pro-Life or Catholic threads, or other threads of general interest.
Apparently Congressman Akin didn’t destroy the Pro-Life movement with his inelegant comment.
Great news!
Thank God!
I am so touched by this - I was born and raised within walking distance and used to swim in the Sunset Park pool every Summer. God only knows who out my family or friends families might have died there. Good riddance to that blight, and God bless the good people who achieved this.
As a Catholic, I can report hearing about threats to religious freedom just about every week. I don’t recall seeing anything like that before, except for pro-life issues.
The clinic in Queens has a “problem” because it’s “struggling to find patients.”
Why is this a problem?
This is GREAT NEWS! I’m proud today to live in Brooklyn.
There should be throngs of protesters outside of every forced abortion clinic everyday they are open. Where is everybody?
from what I read, the pro-life folks were not violent or offensive. We can show that we are polite people in contrast to libs..
This is just wonderful!! Perhaps this was a sign from heaven that the celebration mass was held at St. Michael’s as it was the archangel’s feast day on the 29th. By this I mean a reminder that St. Michael is a great intercessor for help in the battle against the abortion slaughter.
Margaret Sanger opened her first clinic in Brooklyn, I believe - was it in this area of Brooklyn does anyone know?
It is inspiring me to get out there more at our local PP and pray the rosary.
