That is a big topic on which much can be said. The U.S. has dabbled in National Socialism before; elements of Roosevelts New Deal emulated Mussolinis policies, and were implemented by men who made no secret of their admiration for Il Duce. But it has been a long time since anyone has seriously tried to turn the United States in a National Socialist direction.
Which is what Barack Obama seems to be doing. Consider his 983 executive orders, compared with George W. Bushs 63. Or his extra-constitutional czars; or his illegal cramdown of bondholders in auto bankruptcies; or the explosion in warrantless wiretaps and the even greater explosion in federal regulations; or his green energy scams to distort the economy and enrich political cronies; or the recent revelation that the Obama family costs U.S. taxpayers something like twenty times what the British Royal Family costs its subjects. Or, more important, consider Obamacare, a classic top-down National Socialist program.
And then there is the matter of style. The cult of personality is central to National Socialism, and Obama is part of that tradition to a degree that is, frankly, creepy. Consider this Obama poster:
**snip**
As many observers have pointed out, this sort of image is fundamentally at odds with the American political tradition. Which, I suppose, is a point in its favor if you are Barack Obama. Compare the Obama poster with this one, which celebrated Lenin at the height of his dictatorial powers. The resemblance is eerie:

The irony is that, despite all the branding of Republicans as “Nazis”, Obama is as close as we have come to having a National Socialist president since FDR. Ostensibly “private” industry taking orders from the government. That is Nazi-ism without, of course, the racial theory. Couple that with abortion on demand, which was one of the policies advocated by eugenicists, and you have something that comes as close to Nazi as we’ve had in a long, long time.
I’m no fan of Obozo, but when you argue with libs, you need to have your ducks in a row. Obozo has issue nowhere near 900+ Executive Orders. You can see EO’s by president at:

These people are the face of evil in our time.
To answer the question; Is the pope Catholic?
For perspective - frightening perspective - I recommend reading "The Vampire Economy. FReeper null and void mentioned it it a thread recently and I've been reading it. It is an account from 1939 of what it's like to do business in a fascist country. The parallels to FDR's regime, and more disturbingly to Obama's, should scare any American to death.
Bambi
Lenin.
Spooky.
My mother who has had first hand dealings with real Nazis, says Obama reminds her of another charismatic ruler.
Scene in a supermarket in 2008, just before the election:
Two women running around gathering their groceries, looking very happy, speaking to each other as if they were ecstatic, while wearing all black, with “Obama” in white on the front of their shirts. (It really happened.)
If he’s elected again, the question is what color shirt his followers will choose; brown, black, or maybe
rainbow-colored.
IMHO
Always break it down to the two component words, National Socialist. As in, "I will always be against National Socialist Obamacare."
Then teach folks that Nazism and Communism are just two sides of the Socialist coin, pure statist and totalitarian ideologies, differing only in their choice of state enemies.
So Socialism is Statism, at one end of the spectrum. Constitutionalism is at the other end. I avoid "right and left" just like "red state / blue state" or even "liberal / conservative."
The left misuses those dichotomies, such as when they call repressive regimes in the Middle East "conservative" or "right-wing."
So don't use the statists' vocabulary. Don't "fight on their ground." Always distinguish between Socialist/Statist at the tyrannical end, and Constitutional or Liberty-oriented at the freedom end.
Using their language gives them a victory before the debate even begins.
No. National socialism implies that he has a sense of nationalism. Obama’s just a plain, old socialist.
In my experience in Cambridge, MA in the 1970s and 1980s, the Trotskyites were the really active leftists. I see Obama as a follower of Trotsky and of Mao. I do think his implemention is basically fascist, but -- as you say -- he is not really a nationalist at all.
A mesmerizing voice.
People to blame ("Rich crackers")
An economy going downhill.
Czars (In America!!!)
The view of Congress as an impediment (and looking for ways around it) rather than an equal branch of Government.
Buddying up to the Muslim Brotherhood (who had their origins closely tied to ... You guessed it! The Nazis.)
I'm just waiting for the Reichstag Fire.
Like a rapist identifying himself before the act.
Hi, I'm a mulatto bastard, STFU and bend over.
Yes, and nothing can be done about it
