How Government Will Take Meat off Your Table
The New American ^ | 28 September 2012 | Selwyn Duke

The British pork industry is collapsing, and it’s a story that should serve as a warning to all of us. Why? Because the agents of its demise have the entire West in their crosshairs.

The numbers are staggering. With a pig herd halved during the last decade, Britain has gone from producing 110 percent of its domestic consumption of pork to only 40 percent. This is due to many of the nation’s pig farmers having left the business, and they’re poised to be joined by 100 more this year, which represents “10% of Britain's small to medium-sized producers,” reports the Guardian. Consequently, it’s predicted that domestic production will decline another 20 percent by Christmas.

Britain’s pork farmers’ woes have been worsened by the droughts in the United States, which have increased the cost of feed. But what’s the source of their underlying problems? If you guessed government, go to the head of the class. As the Financial Times writes, “UK farmers are part of a global trend as the cost of feed and compliance with welfare regulations hits suppliers worldwide.”

The “regulations” in question are animal-welfare regulations

I think they call that ‘long pig’. A friend told me that spam was popular in the former cannibal islands of the Pacific because it tasted like long pig. LOL

Bigger British companies in Phils export to rest of Asia. No taxes neither coz runs thru Pinoy family account and $$ stays in Phils.

Grains are quite unhealthy. The nutritional equivalent of eating sugar.

But their cheap and the left intends to impoverish us, so they push them.

Reference the school lunches designed by MO. Fully of starch and grains.

Ya know something? YOU are right! I saw a story a few days ago on how pork prices were going to skyrocket sometime next year due to the failing corn crop, major hog food. However, they said nothing about the skyrocketing beef prices, also another corn consumer, probably even more so than pigs. Wouldn’t it be easier to sustain pigs rather than cattle? If there was going to be a shortage of anything, wouldn’t it be beef? The government planned the hog feed devistation by mandating ethanol production. I believe we’re being set up and this has to do with shiria law.

***They are forced to update two generators (which are working perfectly fine) or he cannot get fuel delivered - another $4,000.00 needlessly.****

A friend of mine ran into this problem. He started a egg farm by borrowing money from his chicken supplier’s bank. He worked hard and paid it off.

The day he paid it off, the supplier (and bank owner) demanded upgrades before he would bring in new chickens. Back to the chicken supplier’s bank to borrow money.

He then worked hard and paid the loan off again. Then the supplier demanded more upgrades, so back to the bank.

If he went to a different bank for the loan the chicken supplier would have dropped him immediately as the supplier owned the bank.

After about 15 years of this cycle he sold out and has not raised a chicken since.

We have feral hongs all over our place. I ate some boar hog meat once....... never again. BARF!

If boars aren't castrated when young, they will taste awful. Best to have a 120 - 150 lb sow for eating.

It’s just wrong. I was thinking of times when farmers minded their business, grew their crops and raised their animals and sold them at the market. They took care of everything because it was in their own best interest.

I am surprised your friend was able to sell his egg farm...guess the buyer didn’t know what he would be up against.

Stop the ethanol BS and feed costs will go right back down.

Feed costs are NOT the problem.

The purpose of the 2nd Amendment is becoming more and more clear every day (and it ain’t for shootin’ game).

Further relating this comment to the thread topic... hogs can come in handy for other purposes (according to Henry Bowman) before being sent to the slaughterhouse. Feral hogs should work just as well.

It’s more an issue than are minimal animal cruelty standards.

Although no one has ever taken me up on it, I have links to several indepth studies over conducted over several years, and tens of thousands head of livestock from beef to poultry that shows that 40% number bandied about so freely is WAY high.

The study was conducted by several midwest university livestock professors who set about coveraging the real uses of the ‘ethanol corn’.

If you are interested in seeing actual scientific research as opposed to political research, let me know.

You’ll be the first.

I can’t tell from your homepage, are you a farmer, or have any friends/relatives in farming?

Robin Hood, in all probability, never even existed. He's a morality tale about taking from those you consider having taken from you unjustly. But Robin Hood had no more claim to the money he stole than the people who stole it to begin with. I suspect it's always dangerous to rob one person on behalf of another.

The only Tea Party I recognize is the one that featured the patriots from Boston, and their ideological heirs who want our government back. I don't include a mythical English highwayman, regardless of how you render his story.

Governments never give - they only take. The one thing governments need is the consent or at least acquiescence of the people. This Obama Socialist tyranny thing is being moved forward with lies that a lot of people willingly believe. This Agenda 21 thing is also being implemented in America (and thus worldwide) by means of CONSENT.

Because they love and believe a lie, God shall send them strong delusion (2 Thessalonians 2:10). The world is headed for gross darkness (Isaiah 60:2) to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness (Daniel 9:24). The sign of His coming draws near. That that is determined shall be done (Daniel 11:36). What's coming is that great and terrible Day of God's vengeance (Isaiah 61:2) and the Wrath of the Lamb (Revelation 6:16).

If you are a believer, rejoice because the sign of His coming draws very near. He will come as a thief in the night to claim His own before that great and terrible Day. We that are His are not appointed to wrath but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ. (1 Thess 5:9). If you are not a believer, just receive Him now and you will be washed by the blood of Jesus and made righteous by His gift of grace.

In the meantime, let us be filled with faith and courage, fighting the good fight of faith and freedom. May we, like our forefathers, continue while we live, "with malice towards none and charity towards all, with firmness in the right as God gives us to see the right, [to] strive on to finish the work we are in..." (Abraham Lincolns 2nd Inaugural Address).

The whole thing is utterly ridiculous. They bring in these regulations to "improve" the quality of the product, which drives the producers out of business, but the demand for the product still exists, so we end up having to import it from other coutnries which DON'T have to abide by all the regulations the well-intentioned by deranged have brought in!

The net result is that we end up with a devestated home grown industry, greater consumption of fuel because stuff is no longer locally sourced, a poorer balance of payments, and consumers have a lower quality product!
