The British pork industry is collapsing, and its a story that should serve as a warning to all of us. Why? Because the agents of its demise have the entire West in their crosshairs.
The numbers are staggering. With a pig herd halved during the last decade, Britain has gone from producing 110 percent of its domestic consumption of pork to only 40 percent. This is due to many of the nations pig farmers having left the business, and theyre poised to be joined by 100 more this year, which represents 10% of Britain's small to medium-sized producers, reports the Guardian. Consequently, its predicted that domestic production will decline another 20 percent by Christmas.
Britains pork farmers woes have been worsened by the droughts in the United States, which have increased the cost of feed. But whats the source of their underlying problems? If you guessed government, go to the head of the class. As the Financial Times writes, UK farmers are part of a global trend as the cost of feed and compliance with welfare regulations hits suppliers worldwide.
The regulations in question are animal-welfare regulations

And sadly that’s their plan. The devil is very, very happy....
No shortage of pork in TX, feral hogs are taking over.
Another point, which the author overlooks, is that Muslims don’t eat pork. How convenient.
You’d really better be careful when you mess with the food supply though. Nothing like not being able to afford food to pi$$ people off.
My daughter and her husband own a pig farm. Last night they were telling me of new regulations that could very well put them out of business. There is actually something regarding the “social” aspect of the pigs. How they are to be treated if they’re misbehaving, etc.
The animal rights and environmentalist are going to put an end to free markets and capitalism. The regulations being inflicted will drive people out of business. They even tell my son-in-law how high his grass is allowed to grow and in what proximity to his barns it can exist. He’s looking at $$$$$$$ to cage his light bulbs a certain way. They are forced to update two generators (which are working perfectly fine) or he cannot get fuel delivered - another $4,000.00 needlessly.
What on earth does it take to fight this?
Bangers and snorkers...good-o
If anyone has looked at the price of chicken, pork and beef lately, they already see confiscation of a great deal of meat...and other things that could have been purchased had those prices remained stable.
Stop the ethanol BS and feed costs will go right back down.
I like you optimistic point of view. I think the liberals and environmentalists will not be happy until we are rounded up into state apporved cities under Agenda 21. They will reduce birth rates and restore the country to their idea of it's natural condition. The human race must be destroyed to bring back “mother nature” One person actually said that the earth should not be scratched.
40% of our drought ravaged corn crop will go to making worthless ethanol fuels that have done nothing to reduce our dependency on oil, exist solely with government subsidies from seed to tank and have made a few farmers and ADM rich. It would cost us less to just write corn farmers a check.
We have feral hongs all over our place. I ate some boar hog meat once....... never again. BARF!
sorry typo fat fingers and no coffee..... hongs=hogs but you knew that.......
Robin Hood was a thief. A well-intentioned thief, maybe, but a thief nonetheless.
Working on coffee now, and I missed your typo the first time around!
The Robin Hood story is a story about taxpayers fighting back against a government of looters.
The looters have told you that he was a thief. They said he stole from the rich, but that is a self-serving rendition. He stole from the tax collectors. He gave to the tax payers.
Robin Hood is the Tea Party.
When the only thing left to eat is bread, i”ll probably have to turn to environmentalists and animal rights advocates. just simply cannot handle wheat and wheat byproducts.
The purpose of the 2nd Amendment is becoming more and more clear every day (and it ain’t for shootin’ game).
Socialists are adamantly opposed to abundance in anything, for a very clear reason. Socialism thrives only in conditions of shortage, where the government must ration *all* things, so the public are utterly dependent on government.
Why shortage must exist in *all* things is based in economics, because if *anything* is in abundance, it can be used as a de facto currency, allowing people to trade for what they want and what they don’t want, locking government out of the process.
This effort to create shortage is so profound among socialists that in East Germany, even music and color was restricted to only situations that “honored the state”. That is, things like colorful flowers were prohibited as ‘wasteful’, and paints were only available in black, white and gray.
The environmental movement is a gratuitous exercise in this idea. It actively promotes the idea that all things, even fresh water and clean air are in shortage, and that the only way to confront this shortage is for everyone (else) to have to make do with less. Of course this does not apply to them, which explains Al Gore’s energy consumptive mansion and frequent jet flights.
They adamantly oppose any idea to develop more of what may be in shortage, as this defeats their purpose, which is not the environment, but control. In truth they do not care about the environment at all.
Many years ago, I saw a superb example of this deceit. During a school campaign for students to “conserve water” in their homes, I found out that mining, industry and agriculture consumed something like 96% of the fresh water in the state, with only 4% used for domestic purposes.
So why the emphasis on domestic consumption? The tiny amount of water they might save is insignificant. The response to this was that it was *essential* to “raise awareness” about water conservation.
Ironically, just a day or two later, to save money the mining companies announced they were going to recycle the water they used. This decision immediate increased the available water in the entire state by almost 1/3rd.
Obviously, this should have killed the domestic conservation campaign dead as a doornail. But conservation was not the purpose of the campaign. “Raising awareness”, even based on a total lie was “what is important”, said one of its advocates.
Thus, I learned the warning that if anyone cites “raising awareness” as a reason behind some campaign, they are lying socialist scoundrels.
So the bottom line is that, while some shortage may exist in something for a while, the only people with credibility are those who want to address the shortage by creating more abundance. Those who insist that the only way to address a shortage is by “doing without” and rationing “what is left”, should be dismissed out of hand.
Well, I’m sure a new EPA regulation is on the way to protect those cutsy-wootsy 500 lb. beasts so we can’t kill them off.
