Some number of iPhone and iPad users upgrading to iOS 6 are reporting a range of Wi-Fi problems, as are some iPhone 5 users. The solutions, when there are any, seems as baffling as the problems.
The continuing posts at Apple's tech support site and at online forums show users with existing iPhone and iPads frustrated by a flurry of different problems, including a "grayed out" Wi-Fi option, dropped connections, slow connection speeds, and having to connect manually to a Wi-Fi access point. Separately, there are posts by some owners of the new iPhone 5, released last Friday, also about Wi-Fi problems.
Confusedly, these are problems that are unrelated to the Wi-Fi glitch last week when iOS 6 was first released. In that situation, the iPhone or iPad pings an Apple Website to determine if the device is on a hotel or airport Wi-Fi network and needs a network "terms of agreement" page. That webpage was temporarily offline, but its absence prevented a lot of users from getting Wi-Fi access for a few hours. But it was quickly fixed.
Because of the nature of online postings, it's difficult to see patterns or to gain a sense of how widespread these problems are. When queried last Friday, an Apple PR spokesman replied via email "Thanks for bringing this to my attention." Two follow-up emails asking for a statement from Apple have not been acknowledged by either of two PR persons contacted.

No matter how advanced technology gets, there will always be those who will complain about it.
Yes...in same room with a ios5 user and I could not get a wireless connection on my ipad. His was fine. It worked in the same place before upgrade.
Java was introduced when the only real programming language for the web was C++ so at that time (1995) it was the only web programming language that was easy to use. It never was that good for the web and the “error proofing” the code constructs and framework to keep developers from making errors only made it easier for incompetent programmers to produce more crap code; it is also still a heavy resource hog. Incompetent programmers write crap code, regardless of the language and Java has not changed that.
Thanks. I just Googled it too
I thought crap what have I done when I upgraded from BB to IPhone. Fortunately I figured out a new gadget I paid $80 for called Mophie. It’s an external battery/case comes in about 4 or 5 beautiful colors and gets my phone thru the entire day into the evening w/o a recharge
I lost the Youtube app, too. All I did was go to Youtube and instead of bookmarking it, I added it to my homescreen. Works just like it did before.
True. The Object Oriented guys have gotten very lazy. The development cycle is a fraction of the length it should be and Beta testing is almost nonexistent. In fact, general release has become Beta testing since feedback is instantaneous in either case.
maybe opt out of the apps on facebook itself, although sometimes it still tells you. I haven’t gotten any notifications. I did have to go in and turn off it putting my photo next to me when I got an email which was really weird because it didn’t even use my profile photo (Gadsden flag) it used a photo I had been tagged in by the hubby. I really dislike having facebook be all in my contacts since it fills up my contacts with many people I will never call or email, but that I do like seeing the occasional news from on FB.
My wifes text messages get copied back to her. They also still haven’t fixed the broken Bluetooth or the voice command in the iPhone 4.
My next phone next month won’t be an Apple. It’s USELESS as the phone I need; no working Bluetooth or voice command, which makes it useless on a motorcycle with a Bluetooth helmet. It also interferes with the bike’s Bluetooth system so getting the radio/satellite from the bike hit and miss.
And that is my main beef with that OS. It’s clogging up my calendar and screen with notifications I don’t GAS about.
WAIT!!!
I lost Google Earth, You Tube and Adobe Flash Player. I can’t watch any videos. I have no maps. There have been multiple trivial issues as well.
I haven’t had any problems.
I mysteriously lost Adobe Flash Player a couple weeks before the upgrade. You Tube worked fine as a separate application, but not in my browser. Now without the You Tube app, I have almost no videos. If it requires Flash Player, I can’t watch it.
Upgraded my iPhone 4POS and it keeps dropping even my 3G connection. I get the dreaded “o” symbol. Time to reboot again!
The latest Samsung Galaxy S3 goes for about the same price as the latest iPhone (5). This tells me that Samsung is very very very competitive with the iPhone. That the Galaxy S3 is highly desired worldwide. Plus you can get Google maps on it not that effed up up Apple mapping...released way before it was ready
You go to places like Argentina, Uruguay or Thailand where consumers don’t have so much money to squander...Android phones outsell iPhones by a large margin.
I came, I saw, I stuck? LOL
but i thought ‘it just works’
hahahaha
yea, serious shadenfreude on my part toward the smug iDrones
i love the liberty of choices the Android platform offers, and at a reasonable price ;-)
note: im not calling the op smug nor an idrone....these epic apple fails just amuse me. i wish no additional ails to the op ;-)
ran out of tags over the years...
