I still remember the very first drink I ever had way back as a teenager.
It was Heineken Bock Beer and we were on a school outing.
A lot of you are writing off his forgetfulness or making light of it.
My dad was like this two years ago, and now he is fully unable to participate in life any more except to be watched like a child and see people and eat. My dad the vibrant person is gone. Alzheimer’s can go very fast; he has significantly declined this summer alone.
They say that over half of 85 year olds have it. So take this poor guy seriously. And hope that he can get it under control so that his decline is slower than my dad’s.

Physical screening & licensing in boxing were a joke. Ali should have been forcibly retired due to mental impairment, but nobody seemingly had the power or the will to do it. The fighter usually won't do it on his own.

What do you mean by “pay attention”? Cause to me it would logically follow that paying attention would be followed by some sort of action like changing the rules of these sports beyond recognition or putting them out of business, the latter of which is what may happen if these plaintiffs win that lawsuit against the NFL.
I’m not much of a sports fan, but I also don’t want to see them put out of business because of these lawsuits. Let’s remember — no one held a gun to the head of any of these athletes, they chose to play these sports knowing full well they would have to take some big hits to the head. I just don’t see how they can claim today that they didn’t understand the risks involved. Maybe I’m missing something...

No,I’m not suggesting look backs that result in lawsuits.Assuming that research done by respected brain scientists shows a connection between having played football,hockey,etc and unusual brain deodorization later in life (which,given my 20 years of experience in healthcare,I suspect will be the case),then an argument can be made for using great caution in kids’ sports and “informed consent” when playing college or professional sports as adults.Would such a policy change football or hockey? Probably.
Yes, I suppose we are. That's what we do about a lot of things we can't change. Like death or disease. I'm not going to pity the guy, what good would that do him? When I'm on my deathbed and in pain, I hope I have the courage to laugh and remember the good times. I'm a prime candidate for Alzheimers by the way. I hate the disease but I will not let it define me nor my loved ones. I certainly don't wish it on anybody and I hope JMcMahon finds a cure but forgetting is the norm for the elderly.
When I accuse Mr. hummingbird of not listening to me, he says he is and gives a general topic.
He just hangs on a word or two to make me THINK he is listening. If I ask him to go more in detail, he can't. Arghhhhh......
I'm so sorry, Yaelle. My Dad is 80 and I see some problems with him. It IS like the "vibrant person is gone".
My Mother, also 80, has similar symptoms.
When I am alone with either of them, they tell me how bad the other is doing. I cry when I get home.

Start fighting it now. Playing computer games like Call of Duty, Battlefield 2, Medal of Honor help. It puts your mind into overdrive, fight-or-flight mode.
Television is the worst because you are a spectator. With computer games, you have to interact, participate, figure out what to do, etc.
Reading books is also more interactive than television.
Sometimes I forget I posted something once already ............ :)
It took ten years for this awful disease to kill my mother. The only great President in my lifetime correctly called it “the long goodbye”.
I wish more time and money could be spent to find a cure or a means of prevention. If Alzheimer’s had the funds available that AIDS has received (a completely preventable disease, BTW) there could well be a cure by now.
