Man Dies in Police Raid on Wrong House
ABC News ^ | September 25, 2012 | Vicki Brown

A 61-year-old man was shot to death by police while his wife was handcuffed in another room during a drug raid on the wrong house.

Police admitted their mistake, saying faulty information from a drug informant contributed to the death of John Adams Wednesday night. They intended to raid the home next door.

The two officers, 25-year-old Kyle Shedran and 24-year-old Greg Day, were placed on administrative leave with pay.

We did the best surveillance we could do, and a mistake was made,” Lebanon Police Chief Billy Weeks said. “It’s a very severe mistake, a costly mistake. It makes us look at our own policies and procedures to make sure this never occurs again.” He said, however, the two policemen were not at fault.

This took place in October of 2000. Not exactly “news”.

Doesn't matter. Whatever it takes to get the liberals here at FR all fired up and agitated about all cops are JBT's and the need to surrender in the WOD

With a name like John Adams , maybe he was shot for being a suspected Tea Party terrorist.

and again, as always, taxpayers get to pay.

Why are people blaming the two officers?

They had a warrant with this address on it (the warrant was wrong, but that isn’t their fault, or at least nothing in the story says they were involved with the warrant).

They knocked on the door. The people inside said they heard the knocking, but didn’t listen. The police say they identified themselves and broke in the door. The woman doesn’t say they didn’t.

When they came in, the man shot at them with a shotgun. They returned fire. The woman doesn’t dispute this.

So I don’t see, a priori, why we would blame the two officer, or call them names.

I don’t expect police to go in guns blazing. But I don’t expect police to stand there when they are being shot at.

There needs to be one huge case, giving a huge payment for restitution,

Do those officers have that kind of cash? Oh you mean those taxpayers should pay up? Boy that'll learn'em alright, making others pay for your mistakes/crimes.

Here's a story from 2010 that cites a shooting from 2000 with the same name: Lebanon police shoot driver

This is a story that gets referenced a lot in the "police shootings" blogs, and I guess someone found it and reposted it, and with no date, it can confuse people.

The Attorney General of Tennessee at the time was Tommy Thompson, I assume no relation to the Tommy Thompson running for Senate in Wisconsin. The shooting had a racial component because the victim was black. Maybe the lefties are stupid enough to think they can smear Tommy Thompson as a racist, not realizing it's a 12-year-old story and it's a different Tommy Thompson.

I can't explain why the freeper would post this.

Family members did not consider race a factor and Weeks agreed, but said the shooting will be “a major setback” for police relations with the black community.

Ya think???

It makes us look at our own policies and procedures to make sure this never occurs again.

But it's happened before.

Got to use those 2 billion rounds of hollow point ammo.
Illegal for the military to use in warfare.
Banned by the Geneva Convention.
Might as well shoot citizens with the stuff.

BS! Either they got wrong information (and failed to check it), or they intended to raid the house next door (based, as far as anybody knows, on correct information) and screwed up.

we need to outlaw no-knock raids

Certainly, there is no place for no-knock raids in drug investigations. Just knock on the door, and if somebody inside has drugs and flushes them then he's been punished enough with the equivalent of a huge fine (if he's part of a drug distribution network, he'll be in a lot more trouble for not being able to come up with their cut of the money he was supposed to make selling the now-flushed stash).

No. The police are guilty of murder. The survivors have the right to sue the town for millions of dollars.

No accountability? No consequences? They made a MISTAKE?

The homeowner fired at the police first with a sawed off shotgun. What were the police supposed to do?

Murder 1.
Try them.
Convict them.
Sentence the shooter to death.
Everyone involved should serve hard time.

This same ABC story from 2000 is linked on a blog called the “Silver Circle Underground” in a post on September 13, 2012.

It was linked at Sodahead on September 3, 2009.

A site called “Dead Victims of the Drug War” has John as their last (datewise) victim, and claim that 5 police officers were involved in the raid.

LiveLeak just posted this story yesterday. Not very “live”.

And a place called “DateHookUp.com” ran a story about this in 2002; they mention that the narcotics chief was fired over the incident, the woman got $200,000 from the city, plus a monthly payment of $1675. They also paid Adam’s hospital and funeral bills.

So, the question to ask is, why did a blog post back to this on September 13? And why did liveleak pick up the story yesterday? And why are the lefty blogs pushing this story as if it happened recently? Do they seem some political advantage — firing up their base in Tennessee by pouring salt on old wounds?

Hey, look, it’s ANOTHER one of those really, really, really, really rare botched gestapo raids.

According to you, only one in ten million police forced entries.

It’s a real statistical aberration that at least six of them have occurred since you last made that dumbass statement and then doubled down on it.

Or maybe there have been sixty million police swat raids since then?
