Obama Versus Obama (Thomas Sowell series)
Creators Syndicate ^ | September 25, 2012 | Thomas Sowell

Posted on 09/24/2012 2:48:26 PM PDT by jazusamo

Many voters will be comparing Mitt Romney with Barack Obama between now and election day. But what might be even more revealing would be comparing Obama with Obama. There is a big contrast between Obama based on his rhetoric ("Obama 1") and Obama based on his record ("Obama 2").

For example, during the 2008 election campaign, Obama 1 spoke of "opening up and creating more transparency in government," so that government spending plans would be posted on the Internet for days before they passed into legislation. After he was elected president, Obama said, "My Administration is committed to creating an unprecedented level of openness in Government."

This Obama 1 sounds like a very good fellow. No wonder so many people voted for him.

But then there is Obama 2. He passed a mammoth ObamaCare bill so fast that even members of Congress didn't have time to read it, much less the general public. It was by no means posted on the Internet for days before the vote, as promised.

The Constitution of the United States requires transparency as well. When people are nominated by a President to become Cabinet members, the Constitution requires that they be confirmed by the Senate before they can take office, so that facts about them can become known before they are given the powers of their offices.

Although President Obama complied with this requirement when he appointed Cabinet members, he also made other appointments to powerful positions created by Executive Orders — people aptly called "czars" for the vast, unchecked powers they wielded, in some cases greater than the powers exercised by Cabinet members.

I first became aware of Tom Sowell in the seventies on Buckley’s program “Firing Line.” He sounded as brilliant then as he does now. As far as I know, other than FOX or C-Span, it might be the only time I’ve seen him on any tv show. He’s never been interviewed on “Sixty Minutes” or other similar network shows as far as I know. I could be wrong.

” I first became aware of Tom Sowell in the seventies on Buckley’s program “Firing Line.” “

Same here. Buckley had many good folks on that show.

I recall very clearly that during the early part of his administration when Obama was questioned about unkept promises, Obama smiled and replied:
"that was campaigning, this is governing".

It’s true that Sowell is very rarely on TV. However, the last time I saw him, on C-Span, Brian Lamb established for the record that he had asked Sowell to appear there many times, and that Sowell very rarely accepted. And he asked Sowell why that was. Sowell replied that he thought he was better at writing than at articulating his thoughts on live TV.

Another factor is that Sowell hates to travel. He once declined an award on the basis that he didn’t want to travel to Washington to accept it. The man who told Sowell of the award replied by saying that Sowell should know two things:

  1. the award came with a $250,000 prize, and,
  2. Sowell would be transported to and from Washington via private jet.
Sowell said later that he had learned what he would do if he were a millionaire - buy a private jet.
There have been occasions, few but plural, when Sowell has been a guest on the EIB when Walter E Williams was guest-hosting. And it has to be said that on one such occasion I thought that Sowell vindicated his claim that he was not as good speaking live as in his writing - in the sense that he was overenthusiastic about a (very middling at best, IMHO) idea proposed by a caller.

Yes, but I would like to know if mainstream lib shows like Sixty Minutes have ever approached him for an interview. Or do they know he even exists? I suspect they know about him, but will not interview him for obvious reasons. One of the main objectives of Big Lib Media is to keep brilliant, non-white conservatives hidden from the public. Sowell would not have to travel anywhere for an interview. I wonder if public radio has approached him as well? I seriously doubt they have.

There is no comparison.
1) Hitler lead his country, didn’t follow it
2) Hitler found a way to pay for his reckless spending (raping other countries)
3) At his high Hitler was respected and feared by other nations.(See Time mag man of year)
4) Hitler did get the Olympics in his country
