Michelle Obama:Back when our great-grandparents were riding that Underground Railroad

Now, back when our great-grandparents were riding that Underground Railroad, back when John Lewis was marching across that bridge in Selma, and Jim Clyburn was sitting in an Orangeburg jail, the injustices we faced were written in big, bold letters on the face of our laws. And while we may have had our differences over strategy, the battles we needed to fight were very clear.

James Byrd and “Black Churches Burn” style ads are desperation tactics. Also exceedingly cynical ones since they seek to drive up turnout by creating hate and fear.
Just like you will never hear this truth. During her speech she told the story pasted below. What she forgot to mention was that the committee chairman was a DEMOCRAT, John Stennis, chairman from 1969-1981. But Im sure the lefty press will be reporting that fact straight away. /s
Now, this work wasnt always easy, especially in the early years, when many members of this caucus faced challenges they never could have anticipated. For example, back in the early 70s, Congressman Ron Dellums was appointed to the Armed Services Committee (applause) as was Congresswoman Pat Schroeder. Displeased about having both a woman and an African American assigned to his committee, the chairman at the time added just one seat to the committee room and he forced the two of them to share it. But Congressman Dellums was unphased. He said to Congresswoman Schroeder, Lets not give these guys the luxury of knowing they can get under our skin. Lets sit here and share this chair as if its the most normal thing in the world. (Laughter.)
“I always heard about this underground railroad”, she said “but I’ve been all over the country, and I’ve never seen one - I assume that’s because they’re still underground.” The First Lady went on to propose a special project for the location and excavation of these long lost historical sites. “Somebody must know where one is” she said. “So we just need to start funding a dig, so we can protect and preserve this important part of our history.”
Please tell me you fabricated this quote - it’s a joke, right? Nobody (even Moochie) could POSSIBLY be that stupid!
Given the unusual fertility rates of black females (I have met black women who were grandparents before the age of thirty-eight), perhaps Michelle Obama was referring to Chicago subway riders being transported on the Underground Railroad during the Seventies.
I doubt the maternal ones were RIDING the Harriet Tubman subway system
So my Great-Grandparents fighting to end slavery and save the union mean nothing to you?
talk about your dog whistles
Were any of her great grandparents doing anything with the underground railroad?
It’s a sure bet Obama’s great grandparents weren’t — half of them are white, and the other half were selling their fellow blacks into slavery in Africa.
That’s certainly true, but I was concentrating on those items Miz Meechelle listed in her speech.
Yes, of course I made it up. But the fact that you have to act says something about her, doesn’t it?
Sorry, tired, typing too fast. I meant the fact that you “have to ask” naturally.
Unless they decided that using the standard road/railroad guage would be “actin’ white”, they’d use 4 ft, 8 1/2 in.
So, she and her ancestors have been serial lawbreakers for generations. She obeys no laws she doesn’t like.
If everyone did that, she might not be
See PBRCat’s post. Most American Blacks have their first child at a very early age, and the cycle repeats so that it is more like Michelle’s great great great great great great great great grandparents (on the white side) that were abolishionists.
4 years ago Barack Insaneinthemembrane Choomgang Obama lied to voters in Selma and told them his parents got together because of the marchers in Selma in the 1960s. Except the little lying bastard was already born by then and his parents’ marriage was in splitsville.
I think Barry’s great grandparents were trying not to get eaten by lions. :-)
Wouldn’t it be sweet if someone traced her ancestry to a black slave owner?
