It seems that the recent foray of Mayor Bloomberg into determining what one may and may not consume based on calorie count, was just the appetizer, so to say. As some may recall, back in March we wrote that based on OECD predictions, up to 75% of the US nation will be overweight or obese. Now, none other than Uncle Sam has gotten wind that his population will soon be primarily made up of fat people. So he has a solution, which is in the vein of all other solutions where Uncle Sam is concerned: regulate, regulate, regulate.

So, Mr Durden (author), you just figure that out?
Perhaps you should read FR, we knew this some years ago.
Nanny State PING!
Not only to be regulated, but later to become mandatory. You will picked up and sent away to fitness boot camps if you fall out of the mandatory guidelines. Overweight? To a mandatory fitness camp for you until you loose the excess weight!
Dear Obese America: Uncle Sam Wants To Regulate What You Eat
Not you, Bo.
I’m elated that Mayor Bloomie realizes his constituents are not smart enough to make basic choices about nutrition.
Now if we can get him to keep those same dumb people from voting in elections.....
Guess they’ll be taxing us to good health. How does a 2300% increase on the tax on a bottle of soda sound?
You think you are kidding ? I heard a news report where students were being sent to SC from other states where they have succesful weight loss schools. We are paying for this !!!!
The Food and Nutrition Act of 2008 (the Act) defines eligible food as any food or food product for home consumption and also includes seeds and plants which produce food for consumption by SNAP households. The Act precludes the following items from being purchased with SNAP benefits: alcoholic beverages, tobacco products, hot food and any food sold for on-premises consumption. Nonfood items such as pet foods, soaps, paper products, medicines and vitamins, household supplies, grooming items, and cosmetics, also are ineligible for purchase with SNAP benefits.
Soft drinks, candy, cookies, snack crackers, and ice cream are food items and are therefore eligible items
Seafood, steak, and bakery cakes are also food items and are therefore eligible items
Since the current definition of food is a specific part of the Act, any change to this definition would require action by a member of Congress.
Several times in the history of SNAP, Congress had considered placing limits on the types of food that could be purchased with program benefits. However, they concluded that designating foods as luxury or non-nutritious would be administratively costly and burdensome .

In this computer, barcode, electronic day and age, don’t try to tell me that it would be “administratively costly and burdensome”
Unless you're the First Uruk Hai wanting to tell us that meat is off of the menu

What a sweet gig!
Yeah you gotta use your TANF money to buy that other stuff that you can’t get with SNAP.
There was a local tv station that analyzed where EBT/TANF cards from Indiana were swiped in ATM machines. It was interesting, both Disneys (CA and FL), Vegas, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, NYC etc.
Food was scarce which would cause losing weight although that wasn't a plan, they just didn't have much food. Big brother knew everything you did and would catch you if you read a book as that was forbidden.
They got their news from the monitor and that's all they got.
These methods sound like Hussein’s ideas for us.
I don’t believe any of these government stats anymore. Each of the agencies that offer of these exaggerations have some agenda they are pushing. They are now saying 1 in 15 children are Autistic .... look around and you realize that it is nonsense. 1 in 5 adults are obese ... I bet I could get that up to 1 in 2 adults if I finagled the statistics. A firm grasp of the obvious and common sense dispels most of these cries of doom and pleadings for more funds to avert the looming disaster.
I did read that the folks who mfg MRI and CAT scanners are now having to design to accomodate 600 pounders.
The criteria used to be 400.....
They can start with Pennsylvanians.
Throw in bad tattoo and mullet removal you basically got the whole state covered.
