Mitt Romney: How to Lose the Most Important Election of our Time by not Really Trying
GrasstopsUSA.com ^ | September 21, 2012 | Don Feder

Mitt Romney is losing the most important election of our lifetime. Don’t be deceived by the polls that show him “within the margin of error.” Don’t put your faith in last minute media-buys from the campaign’s gargantuan war chest.

Don’t expect the debates to turn things around. The president may not be an electrifying speaker, but he knows how to demagogue. His message will be: I love the middle class; Mitt Romney wants tax cuts for millionaires and eats children.

And, don’t count on the fact that public opinion is against Obama on almost every significant issue. (At no time since its passage has less than a majority favored repeal of Obamacare.)

The stars should be perfectly aligned for a Republican blowout this year. The economy is in the dumpster – deficits to dwarf anything we’ve seen in the past, the highest sustained unemployment since the Great Depression, anemic growth, huge tax hikes just around the corner, consumer prices through the ceiling – and the man responsible for it all is coasting to a second term.

****************************************

The Governor, bless his bland little heart, is the worst candidate the GOP has fielded since Viagra Bob Dole – so bad he makes John McCain look like Harry Truman on his 1948 Whistle Stop Tour.

Almost every national poll shows Romney behind by 1 to 8 points – Rasmussen (Obama 47%, Romney 45%) Gallup (47% to 46%), Washington Post (52% to 44%), AP (47% to 46%) and Pew Research (51% to 43%).

What is Romney’s message?

If Romney were McCain I might be worried. But I don't think he is that kind of "hands-across-the-aisle" conciliator by nature.

That was a joke, right? That's not how is governed in MA, and that is not how he campaigns. The guy lives and dies by compromise.

Feder needs to grow up. There is no conservative candidate who can sweep the elections. And there is a simple reason for that. There are more takers than makers in America and if enough of them vote we lose. That’s the state of affairs and no amount of bitching and moaning is gonna change it.

These folks are curiously never outraged about Obama. Very strange.

And you know this how?

Reagan won the presidency. America would prefer a clear voice than a slippery character. Newt Gingrich spoke with a clearer voice than Romney.

That is really good advice for Romney’s team, make sure they get it.

I live in California, coast is very liberal, interior is not.
Romney is not running TV spots in the Los Angels basin area, obama is running many - I find that very curious.

because , I think, his “supporters” don’t really care enough to get out and vote. I think turnout is going to be Obamas biggest problem. That’s why he’s running ads, to try and scare/bribe his “base” into voting.

Nope.
I will ask you the question, is Romney going to spend his war chest or not?

You are correct I took three years of statistics in college, I would be able to take a poll or write a study getting whatever result I wanted.
Unfortunately, there are many people who beleive them as gospel, they might show trends but unless you read the internals, they really mean nothing.
Thanks for the links.

If you’ve known Feder that long please give him my own thanks for his articles over the decades. I always read them with interest back when real conservatives sought to persuade people on the left, rather than censor and malign any who were not in thrall to the GOP. There were real conservative discussions in those days. Now we’ve just got Republican echo chambers and parrot points.

Is that another way of asking me if I want to help Obama win by helping to discourage Romney voters?

Really?
That is your answer to the question: is Romney going to spend his war chest or not?
Interesting that you apparently have no answer.

This is not Reagans America. This is an America where the POTUS apologizes to jihadists when they murder and defile our Ambassador, an America where the SS disability roll increases faster than employment, an America where men give each other rings and governments tell me they are wed, an America that kills it’s unborn wholesale and imports illegal aliens to replace them and vote for democrats to give them shit, where 70% of urban babies are born out of wedlock and where 50% of Americans pay no taxes and have a working majority, if they all vote, to raise taxes on the producers to give them more things. Reagan slowed it down but he didn’t stop it and neither can anybody else. And that’s the damn truth.

Don Feder is a very intellegent conservative man. Romney is limp. There is a hope he’ll pick up the tempo and win.

He should tell Obama to stop condemning freedom and bowing to the animals who murdered our ambassador. In fact, release a bunch of attacks so the media won’t know which way to spin their butts and Americans will actually get the chance to hear him around the media.

“The typical (too conservative for Romney) critique, oddly never appears on threads in which Romney is not part of the story, i.e. Obama job losses, Obama debt, Fast & Furious, Obamacare, etc. Threads where it is only possible to mock Obama.”

I can’t speak for others, but my critique of Romney is virtually IDENTICAL to my critique of Obama, because the candidates are virtually identical in every way that matters to the future of the Republic.

- neither Obama nor Romney has any intention of properly addressing very serious fiscal and monetary (Fed) problems
- neither Obama nor Romney supports an original intent interpretation of the Constitution
- neither candidate has any credibility on life/abortion
- neither candidate has any credibility on restoration of the 2A
- neither candidate has any credibility on property rights
- neither candidate has any credibility on restricting pro-big government judicial activism
- neither candidate has any intention of beginning the process to reverse socialism
- both candidates are opportunists who will find a way to justify any unconstitutional, immoral or illegal action supported by the executive branch
- etc

Personally, I don’t see how any principled conservative, Christian, traditionalist could possibly vote for either of these sociopaths.

“There are more takers than makers in America and if enough of them vote we lose.”

I agree if you are talking about the GOP losing. It is still a debatable proposition if you are talking about conservatives.

The GOP has surrendered to the liberal agenda and therefore runs liberals at the top of the ticket, the GOP is running on the same fumes as perennially losing sports team runs on they throw red meat to their FANicticS.

The GOP has given up and says conservatives cant win, their belief system and an over dependence on talk radio says anybody but Obama, instead of running on a conservative agenda that doesn't change every election cycle. The majority of people vote FOR a politician, the minority who lose elections vote against the other guy. Folks vote based on their self interest. They are not as dumb as we like to believe nor are they as lazy> A coherent conservative message from election cycle to election cycle wins voters to the conservative side. Giving voters liberals on both planks will only result in liberals winning. IMO if you are a conservative you cannot vote for Romney, the GOP needs some tough love. If you are intellectually honest you know we can survive four more years of Obama opposed at every step by Conservatives in the House and Senate. What the country cant survive long term is electing liberals with either a R or D behind their name...
