Mitt Romney: How to Lose the Most Important Election of our Time by not Really Trying
GrasstopsUSA.com ^ | September 21, 2012 | Don Feder

Posted on 09/22/2012 8:28:48 AM PDT by Stepan12

Mitt Romney is losing the most important election of our lifetime. Don’t be deceived by the polls that show him “within the margin of error.” Don’t put your faith in last minute media-buys from the campaign’s gargantuan war chest.

Don’t expect the debates to turn things around. The president may not be an electrifying speaker, but he knows how to demagogue. His message will be: I love the middle class; Mitt Romney wants tax cuts for millionaires and eats children.

And, don’t count on the fact that public opinion is against Obama on almost every significant issue. (At no time since its passage has less than a majority favored repeal of Obamacare.)

The stars should be perfectly aligned for a Republican blowout this year. The economy is in the dumpster – deficits to dwarf anything we’ve seen in the past, the highest sustained unemployment since the Great Depression, anemic growth, huge tax hikes just around the corner, consumer prices through the ceiling – and the man responsible for it all is coasting to a second term.

****************************************

The Governor, bless his bland little heart, is the worst candidate the GOP has fielded since Viagra Bob Dole – so bad he makes John McCain look like Harry Truman on his 1948 Whistle Stop Tour.

Almost every national poll shows Romney behind by 1 to 8 points – Rasmussen (Obama 47%, Romney 45%) Gallup (47% to 46%), Washington Post (52% to 44%), AP (47% to 46%) and Pew Research (51% to 43%).

A typical shoot your own side in the back instead of using your forum to attack the Leftist Media machine from another faux conservative media clown

Don Feder is not a faux Conservative.

And I wish you and everybody else in this thread that are so upset by this column were this angry when Romney and his fellow RINOs in the GOP were doing their best to go after Conservative candidates during the primaries.

Sounds to me like your agenda might be to paint a dark cloud over Romney.

The GOP forgot (as they seem to do every four years) that the majority of their base is conservatives and they put a liberal at the top of the ticket.

Every four years fewer and fewer conservatives will vote for the GOP nominee because the nominee is not a conservative.

At some point the GOP powers that be may figure this out and run a conservative at the top of their ticket..I'm not holding my breath.

It makes you wonder if it really is just a one party system and this is the path that our leaders want to go down.

“A terrifying warning from the great Conservative columnist, Don Feder. I wish that he is wrong on this.”

I agee. A damning piece.

Everyone reading this reply, should read the original column in its entirety.

I hope I’m wrong, but barring either a stellar performance in the upcoming debates or some unknown event that impacts the entire nation, it doesn’t look good for Mr. Romney. I live in a blue state but will vote for him anyway, but I have no illusions about the course of this election or the future course of the country.

I mentioned my doubts about Romney in an email recently to a friend (as conservative a person as anyone on this forum) and his response was:
“I’ve already resigned myself to an Obama victory. I just don’t care anymore. If that’s the best that the GOP can muster, then they deserve to lose. Even lil’ Newty would have fared better if given the chance.”

Durn right.
At least Newt would have put up a fight.
Romney doesn’t even want to put up his fists...

MITT ROMNEY IS SATAN'S EVIL TWIN

No, but judging from a comparison of Romney's record with Obama's, it appears he is a pale brother of Obama's:

So true. The liberals are going to win this election. If Obama wins the extreme liberals will celebrate. If Romney wins the liberal RINOs who voted for him will will jump for joy. Either way America will continue to decline. But the liberals will have something to be happy about.

I still think it is good to have a discussion on this. My ego would not be shattered if the columnist I admire so much is wrong (that is what I am hoping).

Blogs, in many respects, are conducted by argument to try to get at a more accurate picture!

John McCain was undoubtably a worse candidate than this one.
he went out of his way to tell everyoe how great obama was and how we had nothing to fear from Obama.
Mccain was worse than wrong about Obama.

Romney is now our horse in the race. Either lead, follow, or get out of the way. talking trash about him, rather than focussing on the absolute and utter necessity of getting Obama fired, is a waste of time and energy right now.

The author is correct to call this election ‘most important’ but is completely clueless as to the very real and wider problem here, and a failure FOR A LONG TIME BY MOST CONSERVATIVES to challenge the Obama-media narratives, from ‘war on women’ to ‘its all Bush’s fault’ is PART OF THE PROBLEM.

The core problem has been a fracturing of the right and the failure of conservatives to acknowledge the need for the obvious “strength through unity”.

You go on dKos and what are the leftists doing - TRASHING REPUBLICANS.
You go on FR and what are the rightists doing - TRASHING REPUBLICANS. Month in and month out for the past 6 years. Now 50 days from the election that will seal the end of America as a constitutional Republic and its transformation into a socialized nanny-welfare-statist progressive Big Govt kleptocracy, what do we have ... those same battered Republicans, having been beat up by all sides are, shock of shocks, not in the majority in polls.

WE HAVE BEEN PLAYED BY THE LEFT AND CONTINUE TO BE PLAYED BY THE LEFT. We have let their “blame Bush” narrative and their attacks on Republicans go unanswered.

We have reaped the harvest from leftist divide-and-conquer strategy. WHY ARE PEOPLE SURPRISED?!?

Can we QUIT trying to come up with creative but phony criticisms of the GOP candidate?!?

Romney promised in January to fully release 2011 when it was completed. HE released preliminary 2011 returns but they were not finalized. Those were completed in Sept. He did as he promised. This was no cave.

Moreover, Romney has now responded more than adequately to the lies by the Democrats on this whole issue. He has shown that he’s given millions to the IRS, and the main reason his tax rate is lower is the millions he gives to charity - every year!

It's Saturday morning in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.

Voters are very conservative here. Republicans win every election.

I did my Saturday morning shopping today — Lowe's, Giant, etc. Drove many miles. Lots of folks are out and about.

I did not see a single Romney bumper sticker — not one!

People in the Valley reject Obama and his policies, but they do not like the liberal Romney from Boston.

“The typical (too conservative for Romney) critique, oddly never appears on threads in which Romney is not part of the story, i.e. Obama job losses, Obama debt, Fast & Furious, Obamacare, etc. Threads where it is only possible to mock Obama.

These folks are curiously never outraged about Obama. Very strange.”

More than strange ... self-destructive.

Does Willard intend to spend his multi million dollar war chest on ads in the next 3 1/2 weeks ???

Why should you care what he does with his money, Tennessee Obamabot? Anyone who calls Romney "Willard" isn't gonna vote for him anyway.

He is wrong.

What an utterly hopeless, pathetic point of view.

Good God. Does anyone remember Gallup having Carter up by eight in October of 1980?????

(yes, yes, I know...this isn’t 1980)....

Romney has a better chance than Dole or McCamnesty...and he has a better chance than Bush I in 1992 or George W. in 2000....

Romney, frankly, is going to get a few pro-Romney votes and whole hell of a lot of anti-Obamugabe votes.

Obamugabe is extremely unpopular, and the media refuses to report that fact.

I’m not saying Romney is a shoo-in, but Feder’s whiney handwringing is uncalled for...for some people, they constantly choose to see the glass half empty. Constantly.

Yeah, I’ve been discouraged too—recently the media onslaught has been horrendous. Do I expect the media to change? Nope.

I believe firmly that most Americans who vote won’t want another four years of the miserable Occupier and his gang.

No matter WHAT happens, I know the Master—He holds the future.

MNJohnnie:

You should be giving that advice gto your sorry excuse for a candidate and not to Don Feder. I have known Feder since we were both law students and conservative activists in the movement that nominated and elected Ronald Reagan.

Your hero Mittler has never seen a non-monetary principle that appealed to him. He has no passion because he believes in NOTHING. He cannot lead because he believes in nothing. He does not inspire because he believes in nothing. He only knows how to spend mountains of money bad-mouthing opponents and then only the conservative or Republican opponents.

Mittler is afraid of his shadow because he well knows that he had no business getting within a thousand miles of a Republican nomination for any office whatsoever. No more business than Obozo or John Kerry or Al Gore or Magical Mike Dukakis or his other ideological kinfolk (if you count what he would fall for as political positions rather than beliefs he has never had). He was a rotten excuse for a governor of Taxachusetts. At the end of his one and only term, his popularity rating was in the mid-thirties. His only constituency is trust fund babies and Wall Street board room types, Junior Leaguers, and polo players. Politically, other than $$$, he's got nothing and he is nothing. Being better than Obozo is not hard to do. Stop at any homeless shelter and choose any sterno bum by lottery and you get something better than Obozo and probably more principled than Mittler. Big deal!

If Romney wants to inflict himself on the US and not have the humiliation to lose to the worst POTUS this nation has EVER seen or hopefully will ever see, then he better drop the refined gentleman act, the spoiled trust fund baby routine, the timid cowardly lion ways, take the gloves off, make believe that he is conservative and deliver some verrrrry unexpected knockout punches to Obozo's glass jaw or below the belt if necessary.

If Romney continues in his cowardly Percival Worthington XXXII act (his turn to curtsy and his turn also to bow even before Obozo) and loses to Obozo, be prepared for war within the party in which the GOP-E get to be overrun and politically slaughtered and run out of the GOP by actual conservatives and actual Republicans not willing to further tolerate upper class wimps of inherited privilege with absolutely NO popular appeal in general elections to win necessary crossover votes or even to keep the actual base of the party united. The days of shamelessly BUYING nominations will end or the GOP will end like its Federalist, Whig and Know Nothing Party forebears.

Oh, and I regard as an unwarranted insult the idea that Romney is anything vaguely resembling my "ally." I don't have pro-abortion, pro-"gay" everything, gun grabber, tax hiker, envirowhacko, elitist wind tunnel "allies." Nor ever shall I have them.

The election is only 45 days from today. On election night, conservatives who ARE conservative can celebrate the defeat of the loser between those two, regardless of whom, and then re-unite to destroy the "winner" since both are enemies of our way of life and neither have earned the slightest benefit of the doubt.

Maybe Mittler can stop by Yale Drama School as immediately as possible for a quick cram course on acting so that he can etch a new sketch playing make believe conservative? At the rate his campaign seems to be going, he had better.

Now, that's your cue to accuse me of being a supporter of Obozo in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1....
