The American Jewish Committee poll shows that the president leads Mitt Romney in Florida by a 69-25 percentage-point margin with five percent undecided. Obama got 74-78 percent of the national Jewish vote in 2008.

My neighbors are Jewish and conservative. They left Israel for greater freedom and do not plan to return. I think they are exceptions. I know some Jewish people in Boulder, CO and they have said directly to me “the government can’t let people do what they want to do”. What I wanted to say so much was “can I dictate exactly what you are allowed to do?”

There are many reasons why a majority of Jews are Democrats. A couple that come to mind is that many are not really religious, they are secular humanists like a good many Democrats are AND many believe that big government will protect them from Christian zealots whom they consider a much bigger threat than Muslim zealots.

One often overlooked fact is that at least half of American Catholics are Hispanic.
In 2010 a Pew Research Poll asked Hispanics to rank 12 political issues in order of importance.
Abortion came in Number 10.
The “Open Borders” Wall Street Journal has spent the last 20 years claiming that Hispanics are “natural Conservatives.”

Excluding Cubans, Hispanics consistently vote 65%-75% for the Democrat Party.
They may well have won if the McCain team had supported Sarah Palin instead of backstabbing her. Apparently it was more important to them to discredit her than to win the presidency.
That's what it really comes down to. For many generations now - in Europe and in the States, the Jewish people vote and support secular left party's. They support big government. Period. One reason I think is because they believe it will protect them from the majority religion (mostly Christian) wherever they find themselves. Because they are actually faced with extinction in Israel, they are sometimes forced to vote right because the left is so hapless and weak (as it is everywhere). Given a real choice though, Jews vote left. Republicans needs to stop trying to win this group. It's never going to happen because, as you said, they'll likely never want a conservative party to be a home to them.

My take is Obama gets 10% less of the Jewish vote this year. So if he got 78% in 2008 he will get 68% in 2012
