Wednesday afternoon, the Commission on Presidential Debates quietly posted a press release announcing the topics for the first presidential debate in Denver on October 3. What the commission didn't say is that this may be the first time in history presidential candidates have been given the topics of a debate ahead of time.
"We had been thinking about this for awhile," says CPD executive director Janet Brown. "CPD's intention is to have the candidates come prepared for a more in-depth conversation."
But some say the release of topics sets a bad precedent.
Though specific questions were not given, debate moderator Jim Lehrer of PBS NewsHour announced the topics of the questions on the commission Web site, saying that three questions will be on the economy, one on health care, one on the role of government and one on governing.

What happens if its scheduled to be a debt debate and say, an embassy gets blown up or an ambassador gets killed that day ?
“debate moderator Jim Lehrer of PBS “
ONCE again, the GOP demonstrates its not ready for prime time.
The debates will be a lovefest between the liberal “news” commentators and a stealth attack on Romney.
They should have demanded that Romney get to pick half the news casters.
I called it last night. See the Kristin-Chuck Todd twitter thread.
Bozo NEEDS to be spoon fed the answers or he is gonna look like he did yesterday in the Univision Interview. This idiot can’t sit and think at the same time.
After Letterman caught Obama off guard on the national debt, I’m not surprised.
I’m surprised.
0bama’s not only going to get the topics, but the media will give him the exact questions, then he’ll have a chance to focus group his answers before the debates.
At least Romney has an idea of what the topics will be now.
The worst example of a “debate” I’ve ever seen was in 2010. It was nothing more than a hostile interrogation, when Wolf Blitzer, along with the liberal hag who co-”moderated,” and Chris Coons were all simultaneously shouting questions at Christine O’Donnell.
With this lineup of 0bama-worshipping kneepadders as “moderators,” I can envision them trying to pull the same crap on Romney.
Later, the Commission on Presidential Debates announced that teleprompters may be used. /s
Ha! We’re being set up, big time! Why do Republicans agree to these liberal debates? Why don’t they insist on a debate hosted by conservative radio? Fools.
Has NBC declared Obama the winner yet?
Pray for America
After Letterman caught Obama off guard on the national debt, Im not surprised.”
...can you give a web site or thread to see or read about that? I missed it.
I’m convinced Obama will be given questions in advance.
“What the commission didn’t say is that this may be the first time in history (BOTH) presidential candidates have been given the topics of a debate ahead of time.”
Had to insert “BOTH” cuz we all know that Obama had the topics from his media bubbas last time...oh, and this time I’m betting he has the specific questions! Is anyone surprised? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller???!!!
Need more time to program the teleprompter?
They let Romney have them too?
Exactly. Remember, Big Ears hasn't had any sort of debate in 4 years, whereas Romney went through the primary debates.
This is designed to help Dumbo and negate any advantage Romney might have in this area.
They’ll probably give Romney the wrong questions.
Yes, you asked what my administration will do to create jobs. Well, the first thing would be to create a friendlier environment for our Muslim neighbors.IOW, they will just pretend to answer the question, and then they will launch another topic which is what they wanted to talk about in the first place. Obama will have an easy time of this because he does this all the time. This will give his team a chance to put his words into the teleprompter. Romney, on the other hand, seems to be a truthful man who plays by the rules. He will find this awkward.
They will give obama the real questions, with answers, and probably give Romney other topics they don’t plan on actually using...
