MSNBC contributor Michael Eric Dyson made a comment on the Martin Bashir show Monday that left the Washington Post's Jonathan Capehart totally speechless.
Talking about Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney's position on abortion and marriage, Dyson said, "He needs to speak to his fellow Republicans whose numbers aint so hot in that regard, and who watch more porn and go to more strip clubs than other people" (video follows with transcript and commentary):
MSNBC's Michael Eric Dyson: Republicans 'Watch More Porn and Go to More Strip Clubs'
MICHAEL ERIC DYSON: I mean, my God, its incredible here. Again, youve got to demonize your enemy. Youve got to portray him or her as the person whos going to attack the institution of marriage, attack the unborn, not be sensitive to the issues that conservatives are sensitive to. Why cant we just all be Americans, and we honestly disagree about issues, policies, projects, and problems? But no, youve got to go to the heart of the matter. Youve got to say, This person is morally corrupt. This person is incapable ethically of running a campaign that is upstanding. And I think this is the difference between President Obama and Mitt Romney and Ryan. Obama says, Look, there are good Americans. I happen to disagree with them. I think their policies are going to dead-end to a way that will take this country in a wrong direction. But Im not going to demonize them. Mitt Romney desperately pulling at straws here wants to suggest that this president wants to take away your life, your livelihood, wreck your institution of marriage.
He needs to speak to his fellow Republicans whose numbers aint so hot in that regard, and who watch more porn and go to more strip clubs than other people would
At that moment, likely realizing his guest was jumping the shark, Bashir interrupted saying, Okay, enough of that.
As this was happening, Capehart on a split-screen was visibly shocked by what Dyson said, and was left speechless - so much so that when Bashir asked, Jonathan, a final word to you, please, to bring it back to the sane universe, Capehart laughed without being able to respond.
With that, Bashir thanked them both, and went to commercial.
And this is the intellectual discussion you get about the differences between Romneys positions and those of President Obama on this farce of a so-called "news network."
Readers are advised that Dyson is not only a frequent contributor to MSNBC, he has also acted as substitute host for many of its regulars.
Pretty scary, isn't it?
I can’t say it....
Michael Eric Dyson, named by Ebony as one of the hundred most influential black Americans, is the author of sixteen books, including Holler if You Hear Me, Is Bill Cosby Right? and I May Not Get There With You: The True Martin Luther King Jr. He is currently University Professor of Sociology at Georgetown University. He lives in Washington, D.C.
Let’s say it’s true, so what?
So that means they like looking at the ladies instead of guys in bath houses and little boys?
That’s for the info, MSNB....whatever your network is called.
I yield to Michael Eric Dyson, and his encyclopedic first-hand knowledge of strip clubs, pornography, and all connoisseurs of same.
Prove it!
IIRC the ladies in Tampa were severely disappointed while I’m sure ole Billy Jeff himself kept the joints jumpin’ in Charlotte.
Their hopeful efforts were all the news before the convention - which I thought was rather odd- and then, when they didn't get the expected bump the stories of Republicans partying hard like Democrats kind of died.
I think the only folks who saw a boost were the hotels and the cigar shops.
lol i remember reading how MS finally found a path to remove the nbc from ms. (something they have wanted for a looooong time because they felt nbc hurt their brand)
Emmerse yourself in the irony!!!
Obama, and by proxy the democrats, don’t like to label, don’t demonize, don’t call names and say outrageous untruthful things about their political opponents, totally UNLIKE those Republicans who watch more porno and go to more strip clubs!!!
Well, he just makes his own case now, don’t he?
Republicans may not always practice what is good as opposed to what is not, but at least the know the difference. No need to accept judgments of people who consider the Constitution and biblical texts ot be “living, breathing documents.” They will forever be servile, while we have the Truth to set us free.
Gee, I don’t know Eric, maybe there are more Lefties performing in porn and strip clubs? How would you know?
Democrats watch more gay porn and go to more bath houses.
I have never known men to sit that close to each other on a couch. does anyone else think the way I do?
That’s just because strip clubs cost money and strippers don’t take food stamps.
The problem I see here is the fact that Laz singlehandedly skews the averages. Laz, do you have an opinion? Can you pull yourself off that monkey a second?
