Modernity requires the willingness to be offended. And as anti-American violence across the Middle East and beyond shows, that willingness is something the Arab world, the heartland of Islam, still lacks.

In the narrative of history transmitted to schoolchildren throughout the Arab world and reinforced by the media, religious scholars and laymen alike, Arabs were favored by divine providence. They had come out of the Arabian Peninsula in the 7th century, carrying Islam from Morocco to faraway Indonesia. In the process, they overran the Byzantine and Persian empires, then crossed the Strait of Gibraltar to Iberia, and there they fashioned a brilliant civilization that stood as a rebuke to the intolerance of the European states to the north. Cordoba and Granada were adorned and exalted in the Arab imagination. Andalusia brought together all that the Arabs favored poetry, glamorous courts, philosophers who debated the great issues of the day.
If Islams rise was spectacular, its fall was swift and unsparing. This is the world that the great historian Bernard Lewis explored in his 2002 book What Went Wrong? The blessing of God, seen at work in the ascent of the Muslims, now appeared to desert them. The ruling caliphate, with its base in Baghdad, was torn asunder by a Mongol invasion in the 13th century. Soldiers of fortune from the Turkic Steppes sacked cities and left a legacy of military seizures of power that is still the bane of the Arabs. Little remained of their philosophy and literature, and after the Ottoman Turks overran Arab countries to their south in the 16th century, the Arabs seemed to exit history; they were now subjects of others...

Pretty decent article actually.
Mohammad says Sorry if we offend you Jews and Christians but its the times we live in
Fully half of all registered marriages in Pakistan are between FIRST COUSINS. Men marrying their nieces is not at all unusual!
This has been going on with the Sunnies for hundreds of years. Not quite so much with the Shia, closer to a quarter of the marriages are between first cousins.
Think about it. Your wife and you share grandparents. Think about that. Now, consider that those grandparents also share grandparents!!
Family trees like telephone poles. Generation upon generation, all the way to Esau and Ishmael.
Why do we wonder that they are so easily led into madness?
i didn’t read the full article.
but i was going to say,
that even for the Washington Post,
i have rarely seen 2 paragraphs
so completely full of factual errors.
Because they have nothing about which to be proud.

Because offense-taking is such a useful political tool in a postmodern victimocracy?

the backwards Arabs, were stunned by the brilliant civilization, that already existed in Persian.
(and large amounts of tolerant Zoastrians).

they never built ANYTHING. their Golden age,
was simply an age of plunder.
built for stealing from Persian, the Christian middle east,
India, and the backs of millions of black slaves.

Spain (Andalusia), was always majority Christian. So the Muslims were slightly more tolerant, to avoid revolt.

their seats of power, were never conquered. so why did the Arab philosophy and literature disappear ? ludicrous. especially when much still remains of the REAL brilliant civilizations, literature, etc., of Greeks, Indians, Persians, etc., from centuries earlier.

those 2 sentences alone, are not just factually incorrect,
they also fail any test of logic, in the study of history, anthropology, etc.
Look at the Arabs.
Look at the ghetto culture.
Look at feminists.
It's all the same. They have no real sense of their own worthiness and so they attack others for insufficiently admiring their greatness.

According to the tradition, Imam Ali Ibn Abi-Talib (the prophet's cousin and son-in-law) prophesied that at the End of Times and just before the return of the Mahdi, the Ultimate Saviour, a "tall black man will assume the reins of government in the West." Commanding "the strongest army on earth," the new ruler in the West will carry "a clear sign" from the third imam, whose name was Hussein Ibn Ali. The tradition concludes: "Shiites should have no doubt that he is with us." In a curious coincidence Obama's first and second names--Barack Hussein--mean "the blessing of Hussein" in Arabic and Persian. His family name, Obama, written in the Persian alphabet, reads O Ba Ma, which means "he is with us," the magic formula in Majlisi's tradition.
Not about being true....It's all about what they think is true.

There was a great article featured here about a week ago. I can’t find it now. It talked about, well,,, basically the brain damage inflicted by a couple thousand years of inbreeding. Marrying your first cousin. One of the things talked about was anti-social behavior. Not to even mention other birth defects! Wish I could find that article,,,,,,,,,,, It explained a lot! And it wasn’t just talk, it was a medical study report.
Try reading the whole thing - Prof. Ajami isn’t known for his “fatual errors”
Nice article.
A more focused approached with great detail and definition in terms of the Koran, the OIC, ALQaeda, CAIR, ISNA etc and the current Jihadist uprisings is to be found in the intricately detailed and simple to view and hear 5 videos of Maj. S. Coughlin, veteran analyst for the Pentagon and the Executive Branch and the Congress. The entire current game plan is exposed from his research into the Muslim world itself in current historical context.
Just as Rommel’s book was read and understood by Patton, Coughlin has read the Islamist playbook and details the findings allowing prediction of events, even as they occur now. Willful ignorance of the Islamist way, its agenda, milestones is our undoing on this matter. Coughlin shows how everything fits together. The WH relies on MuslimBrotherhood advisors. Coughlin makes the case for the Muslim Brotherhood abandoning reliance on Meccan Koranic scripture and adopting AlQaeda’s Medina scriptures as a basis for operations since 2010, and what this means. What it means is what we are witnessing now in N. Africa and the entire ME.
There is definition in the last video to the 10 year milestone plan ending in 2015, which is in progress right now and includes the relevance of Maj. Hasan in detail to the achievement of the milestones.

It’s not about money, possessions or material progress. It’s about faith. The font of Islamic radicalism for decades has been the Gulf kingdoms, the richest of the Islamic countries. It appears that religious devotion among Muslims increases along with wealth. Unfortunately, Muslim religious devotion means following in the footsteps of Muhammad, who exhorted his followers to conquer the world for Islam and kill all who refuse to convert, and set a personal example by conquering the Persian and Roman empires.

God Bless you Genghis Hkan.
Contrary to what the schools teach about Genghis Khan, his primary goal was commerce. His mongul armies swept across Asia and parts of Europe conquering cities and states. He did not, however, wipe out the populace or change things. When a city was taken, it was converted to a mongul territory, if the leaders did not convert they were eliminated, but he allowed the people to keep their customs, religions and freedoms. There was one exception, Islam. The monguls had so many problems with the muslims that the Khan decided that the only way to deal with muslims was to slaughter them all and raze their cities to dust; and this he did.
