FReeper Canteen - Scuttlebutt - 14 Sept 2012
Our Troops Rock!!! | The Canteen Crew

At the FReeper Canteen!

C'mon and take a break ! Walk on over to the water cooler and lets chat. Post your thoughts, opinions, news of the day, rantings, ravings, pontificates, hypothesis, hyperboles, your soap box cause, your mantra, your baggage, your garbage, your blogging, your secrets, whatever you feel would make talk around the water cooler real interesting!

Please remember that The Canteen is here to support
and entertain our troops and veterans and their families,
and is family friendly.

A man in a Florida Supermarket tries to buy a half a head of lettuce.

The very young produce assistant tells him that they only sell whole heads.

The man persists and asks to see the manager.

The boy says he'll ask his manager about it.

Walking into the backroom the boy says to the manager, "Some ####### wants to buy a half a head of lettuce", as he finishes his sentence, he turns to find the man standing right behind him, so he adds "and THIS gentleman has kindly offered to buy the other half".

The manager approved the deal, and the man went on his way.

Later the manager said to the boy "I was impressed with the way you got yourself out of that situation earlier. We like people who can think on their feet. Where are you from son?"

"Canada, Sir" replied the boy.

"Well why did you leave Canada?" the manager asked.

"Sir, there's nothing but prostitutes and hockey players up there", said the boy.

"Really" said the manager, "My wife is from Canada".

"No way" said the boy, "who'd she play for?"

Legged Squad Support System (LS3)

LS3 is a dynamic robot designed to go anywhere Soldiers and Marines go on foot. Each LS3 will carry up to 400 lbs of gear and enough fuel for missions covering 20 miles and lasting 24 hours. LS3 will not need a driver, because it will automatically follow a leader using computer vision or travel to designated locations using sensing and GPS. The development of LS3 will take 30 months, with first walk out scheduled for 2012. The development of LS3 is being funded by DARPA and the US Marine Corps.

~September 14th 1812 Francis Scott Key wrote the Star Spangled Banner - 198 years ago~

The actual flag flown over Fort McHenry. 30 by 42 feet and costing $405.90 the flag was made from 400 yards of wool bunting. The 15 stars each measured two feet from point to point.

Please Stand For Our National Anthem.....

Oh, say can you see by the dawn's early light What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming? Whose broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight, O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming? And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air, Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there. Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep, Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes, What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep, As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses? Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam, In full glory reflected now shines in the stream: 'Tis the star-spangled banner! Oh long may it wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion, A home and a country should leave us no more! Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution. No refuge could save the hireling and slave From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave: And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand Between their loved home and the war's desolation! Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n rescued land Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation. Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just, And this be our motto: "In God is our trust." And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Good morning, E...((HUGS))...we are supposed to have 3 days of rain and high winds, 45 to 60 mph, starting Saturday evening. Not supposed to be as widespread as last time.

You and Bo have a great Friday.

Good morning, Everyone.

Good morning to our

Military, our Allies, and their families.

Thank you, Connie, for filling in for me.

Just for that you deserve a smooch

I hope to be back on regular schedule
IF I can just get my computer back from the repair shop. UGH!
It is taking longer than I wanted.
Here's a business idea for someone who's computer literate...
open a repair shop and stock it with old parts.
Just because my laptop is 6 years old, parts are hard to get.
And unless they make computers cheaper
I do not want to have to buy one every year or two!

The DC Metroland weather report

~ Today... Partly to mostly cloudy. High 83F. Winds S at 5 to 10 mph.

~ Tonight...A few clouds. Low 61F. SSW winds shifting to NNW at 10 to 15 mph.

Okay, I wimped out...I put a sweater on over my blouse this morning.
It is warming up today, so I may go home early and do some chores.

Right now, it's time for me to make my rounds.
But, you stay right where you are.
Don't leave the room...I'll be bock!

Remember, the Canteen is ALWAYS

Come in and sit for a while.
There's always plenty of coffee, tea
pancakes, conversation, silliness,
and plain old BS

Good morning to everyone at the Canteen. That slow moving system gave us about 3" at the house. Some places in the lake basin had 6" - 8".

Yes, we are very happy. There are reports of marina damage on various feeder streams. I’ll see them when I work tomorrow.

The LS3 reminds me of the robotic assistant in Pierce Brosnan’s movie Dante’s Peak.

Next thing you know, we’ll have a LS3-mounted Cavalry Troopers!
