Follow-up to an earlier story at Free Republic:
Farm worker and wife arrested after burglars shot
"The poorest man may in his cottage bid defiance to all the forces of the Crown. It may be frail its roof may shake the wind may blow through it the storm may enter the rain may enter but the King of England cannot enter all his force dares not cross the threshold of the ruined tenement!
-William Pitt the Elder, Speech on the Excise Bill, House of Commons (March 1763).
Some in the modern UK have apparently amended this so burglars and thieves may enter. Fortunately, not quite everyone agrees.

Major civil rights violation. Spouses have legal privilege.

That is just so wrong.

ASTOUNDING that anyone there defends their ‘system’. Sure, we have our problems, but in much (a growing) of this country, the cops like it when we plug the bad guys.

It’s little surprise that the pansy English are more concerned with the rights of murderous thugs than they are normal people. Did they expect him to defend himself against four thugs by surrendering himself to them and offering them tea? Then again, these are the same people who cowered and did nothing to stop the V2 rockets from scorching their land until America came along.

It's a good thing 1776 happened.
Hopefully 2012 will also happen and keep 1776 from being a waste of time.

Every single individual in the government involved with this should be prosecuted and serve time in prison. No compromise.

I'm coming late to this thread, but I recall that when this story broke several days ago that there were folks posting from the UK saying "this is perfectly normal procedure, nothing to worry about, these people are in good hands, etc." Now we find out, as many of us suspected from the start, that they were being subjected to a merciless grilling that lasted for days and only escaped being charged with murder by the skin of their teeth.
I don't see those posters on this thread. Funny that.
