Defense Minister Ehud Barak said Friday that should the cabinet give the order, the IDF could overrun Gaza Strip.

Speaking at a conference focusing on the Operation Cast Lead decision making processes, Barak added that "If the cabinet deems it needed, the IDF can conquer and rule Gaza."

Elaborating on the 2009 military campaign, which was launch following incessant rocket fire on Israel's south by Gaza terrorists, Barak noted that "There was no need to drag the fighting for 22 days. That lesson is true for other things as well." ....

IMO, he’s telling Hamas “If we go after Iran, don’t get frisky on their behalf. You won’t like the consequences.”

If they strike Iran they have to be prepared to hit Gaza as well, it will explode when Iran gets smacked.

Barak: If ordered, IDF can conquer Gaza

I saw this, I thought, WHAT the hell. What's Barack Obama siding with Israel for???

Then I saw who it really was.

I had the same thing happen to me. LOL! When did Obarry ever start siding with Israel. Nobody was supposed to take the DNC’s God and Jerusalem thing seriously at the convention. That was just a show for the ignorant unwashed masses watching on the boob tube.

Israel can no longer afford to fight with one hand tied behind her back. If her enemies want a fight, it is incumbent on Israel to make it fast and decisive.

After Israel devastates Iran, it will make a perfect place to deport the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and West Bank. Two problems solved.

Barak added that "If the cabinet deems it needed, the IDF can conquer and rule Gaza."

Didn't they do that for about 35-40 years?

Gaza is intrinsically linked to the Iran strike. As soon as the first bomb is dropped, rockets will start to fly both from Hamas and Hezbollah. It’s good to know Barak won’t be constrained by inevitable disapproval at the UN. It’s time the terrorists were kicked out of Gaza and Israel controlled the Strip.

Hamas is oppossed to the notion of a strike on Iran - they have often said so. They indicate that it would unleash chaos - they sound almost afraid of the consequences. But I don’t think they would be attacking Israel themselves. Hamas is allied to the Gulf States, who have enlisted them as being against the Shia rivals, so they would probably sit on the sidelines.

Hezbollah, of course, is quite the opposite.

Thanks BlackVeil.
"If the cabinet deems it needed, the IDF can conquer and rule Gaza."
After conquering it, deport the population into Saudi Arabia where they can live better lives with better incomes and no Hamas or PA tyranny. Then annex Gaza. Repeat the process in the "west bank" and "East Jerusalem". If need be, snuff the Hizzie bunkers first. And do it all while Syria is coming apart.

It will take Egypt weeks to mobilize, and Jordan doesn't dare because the Hashemite despotate has lived on the brink for twenty years or more, and has refugees from Syria with which to cope.

They should be crystal clear: If the IDF has to conquer Gaza, then the Gazans become Egyptians. That’s right, no more games, just evacuate the Gazans past the Egyptian border and close the door behind them.

This doesn’t mean that Gaza immediately becomes Israel. In fact, it would be best to bulldoze it flat, for all sorts of reasons. But once this has been done, rebuild the place from scratch, from below ground infrastructure on up.

With housing and residency preference to the ultra-Orthodox, since they will not be confused about inviting Muslims back into their region.

Then rename Gaza, “Judah”.

Build up in Ashkelon so all their defenses are concentrated in the North, then suddenly swing around from the dessert to the East and sea from the West, and have both forces join hands in the South to cut off all supplies. After that, all you need do is apprehend Hamas leadership and ship them off to hell or Antarctica, whichever is closest. That’s how Cast Lead should have been done. The Six Hour War, they’d have called it.

Yep - they will probably conduct a two-prong operation by hitting Iran and clamping down on Gaza at the same time. "Peace" talks will no longer be relevant (not that they ever were).

They’d also need a third prong for Lebanon, at least defensively if not to invade. Syria might be in disarray, but Hizbollah is still hot to trot.
