SOUP FOR THE TROOPS

WELCOME TO THE

(where our troops, allies and their families can refresh themselves)

Good morning, Everyone.
Good morning to our

Military, our Allies, and their families.

Thank you, Ma, for preparing the Canteen for today's activities
Another nice visit with the troops.
Never tire of seeing our guyz and galz at work!

Someone, years ago in one of my jobs, gave me two photos -
one is of the USS Midway and on the back
it says, "USS Midway History."
the other is a faraway shot of the Midway
in battle formation with several British ships
On the back it says, "Battle Group Alfa, USS Midway
and Units of the British Royal Navy
in the Northern Arabian Sea."

Not sure why I've held onto them all these years.
Should hand them off to some guy who loves military souvenirs.

DC METROLAND WEATHER

~ Today...Cloudy with scattered showers with isolated thunderstorms this morning...
Then partly sunny with isolated showers this afternoon.
Hot with highs in the lower 90s.
Southwest winds around 5 mph...Becoming east around 5 mph this afternoon.
Chance of rain 50 percent.

~ Tonight...Partly cloudy. Lows in the lower 70s. South winds around 5 mph.

Yucky, sticky weather.
Waiting to see if we'll get more rain from the passing storm.

Making Z Zoup
A sprinkle of this...a splash of that...

Before the Civil War, the United States government had offered the highly respected Robert E. Lee the position of Commander of Union forces.

If you toss a penny 10,000 times, it will not be heads 5,000 times, but more like 4,950. The heads picture weighs more, so it ends up on the bottom more often.

You can call it Britain, Great Britain, United Kingdom, or U.K. –
however, if you purchase a stamp there,
you won't find any name on it.
Great Britain was the first country in the world
to issue postage stamps,
and they're the only nation in the world today
that doesn't use a national name on their stamps.

The mechanical shark in the 1975 hit movie Jaws was named Bruce.

Several of the Bond girls —
namely Ursula Andress, Shirley Eaton, Eunice Gayson, and Claudine Auger —
were unable to match an alluring voice to their sexy physical attributes.
For each of them, their lines were dubbed by
aspirant actress Nikki van der Zyl,
who later left the film industry to practice as a barrister.
On Doctor No, van der Zyl did every female voice
except Miss Moneypenny and a Chinese girl,
and she also dubbed Raquel Welch's grunting in One Million Years B.C.
(something so wrong about that)

The FR Canteen is ALWAYS

I'll probably regret saying this but
today may be a little slower (fingers crossed).
Gotta check pings and get that out of the way...just in case.
Please stay right where you are.
Keep the troops entertained and the Canteen clean...
Cause...if you don't...I'll tell Ma!

Good Morning, Sarmajor!

And good morning to all the Canteen Galz!

It’s shaping up to be a scorcher here in the Sunshine State. best to get all the outside work done before the worst of it gets cranking.

We had us a sick puppy the other night. The Bride’s dog, a Catahoula, has a raging ear infection that was just hideous to behold. A quick trip to the 24-hour vet got her on a routine of antibiotics and ear drops. Too early to tell if she’s doing better.

Well, the wedding plans are going forward. Sarge and The Bride were asking pointed questions at the reception hall, and things are falling into place, slowly.

Sarge will be in the area all day, so Y’all Have Fun!

Triple Prodigy Day:

Alex, Age 9, Guitar: In a mere three months of lessons this lovely young lady is playing songs by Journey, The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, The Stones, and Credence. “Bad Moon Rising” is rather ironic as we play it together watching thunderheads and funnel clouds forming outside her Everglades home.

Natalie, Age 9, Guitar, Improvises playing Blues Lead Guitar after barely a summer of lessons. Also likes songs by Taylor Swift and Adele. BUT her favorites are the Beatles and the Stones (Again!)

Anna, age 12, knocked them dead in Boca with an AMAZING rendition of “At Last”. The MC rolled her eyes and sneered “a 12year old singing Etta James????”.

And then Anna blew the ceiling away, causing the audience to rise to their feet CHEERING.

I was there. I saw it happen. She had TWO voice lessons with me prior to this event.

AWESOME!

I envy them - I am not musical but would love to play an instrument. And couldn’t carry a tune in a suitcase! LOL

So, Ms. Anna planning on trying out for Idol in the future?

That is just ONE of her goals.

However she is preparing for an audition in January which requires her to be able to “Sight-Sing”, (Reading Music! Eek!) so we have been devoting a lot of time to that, as tedious and difficult as it may be.

Well, it’s going OK. We did get a little bit of rain this morning. Had some storms across parts of Oklahoma with some wind and hail. More in the forecast for today and tomorrow.
