“...why a campaign that was so successful in 2008 is sputtering today.”

Don’t worry. The MSM will pickup the slack to make sense where there is non, to put meaning where there is none, to reinvent the statistics where the statistics are so damning, etc.

GOP & RNC are finally waking up and smelling the coffee. You can’t play nice with these people. They lie & lie & lie. Michael Steele was a joke. Reince Priebus is doing a much more effective job at the RNC.

I kind of agree with Byron, but up to point. Certainly this is not the same as the wishy washy McCain campaign that “suspended” his campaign when the stock market crashed and played nice the whole...lest they get call rascist by Obama. However, they still have the occasional tepid response.

Actually it isn’t. The RNC ran some killer ads mocking 0 as “The One” in Aug 2008. They were doing real damage to 0 poll numbers then McCain and his clowns told the RNC to knock it off because they want “to run a positive campaign”.

“The question is why a campaign that was so successful in 2008 is sputtering today.”

Answer is very simple. Obama had no past history or previous record to run on. He could be manipulated whichever way the democrats and the media wanted, like a fresh wad of malleable clay dough.

He'll have to learn to deal with it -- or lose.

He won't learn to deal with it (imo). You can't fix narcissism let alone fix it in 2 months.

Incredibly, the polls suggest Obama has an excellent chance of being re-elected so I wouldn’t exactly say it was sputtering.

When all else fails, they’ll play the race card in a big way. That will fail too.

I still never buy into this premise, repeated almost as a miraculous fact, that Obama ran this amazingly fantastic campaign in 2008.

The fact is that the corrupt MSM pulled out all the stops to augment and enhance Obama in 2008. They advocated for Obama in the inverse manner they sought to rip Bush every single day. Obama was never - ever - the subject of critical media review. There was nary an ill word ever uttered in the corrupt MSM about Obama. Even when people tried to raise any opposition — such as, lack of experience, no clear historic background, past campaigns issues, Jeremiah Wright, early childhood, etc. — the corrupt MSM puposefully suppressed this information, or ridiculed such information as nothing more than an attempt for unseemly partisan advantage by racists. This, coupled with the fact that John McCain probably actually voted for Obama himself, having said himself just 8 days before the election that we have nothing to fear from an Obama presidency and you can see what type of opposition McCain provided.

The corrupt MSM facilitated Obama’s hagiography. They desperately wanted Obama. That's why Obama had this oft-repeated "brilliant" campaign in 2008.

Why is the campaign sputtering?

Here's a clue: When the snake oil salesman comes to town the second time, people don't buy his line of "Good for what ails you" BS any more.

The G.O.D. factor is wearing off.
Obama is no longer entirely untouchable.
The Obama ring of protection has become a little bit worn.

Just a little bit.

But it has opened him up to some questioning and criticism that was unthinkable just a year or two ago.

For the first time he and his henchmen are being asked a few direct serious questions and they are shocked to be challenged and put on the spot.

They weren’t prepared for such direct questions in place of the usual softballs and are upset that anyone, other than FOX, would have the temerity to directly question Obama or suggest that his policies have failed.

They have been visiblt shaken by being put on the spot and it is obvious that they are offended and outright indignant that Obama is being subjected to questioning and criticism as if he was just a normal, mortal human being.

There is no defense against mockery and ridicule,
especially when any effective defense would expose concepts that they have to keep hidden.

I try not to deal with theory.

It has been reported in numerous political races that the support of the media establishment, local, state, national or international, adds 3 to 5 percent to a candidates final numbers. And that is DOWN from what it was when I was growing up.

The Emperor is an “artificial construct” made by and supported by the media. When it gets down to Republican/Conservative vetting standards used by the media establishment the Emperor isn't even an empty suit.

IMHO, I think this election cycle, 2012, is the first election cycle in the history of the Republic that the media establishment has not been able to hide the faults and failures of their preselected candidate. What it is coming down to is; The established media must make a hard decision - continued blind support of their preselected candidate or their own survival. United opposition by Republicans/Conservatives is only a minor issue.

McCain's challenge was so weak that today Obama sometimes waxes nostalgic for the good old days of perfunctory GOP opposition. "The last time we ran, we had a Republican candidate who -- I had some profound disagreements with him, but he acknowledged the need for immigration reform, and acknowledged the need for campaign finance reform, acknowledged the need for policies that would do something about climate change,"
