Mitt Romney's Character
Townhall.com ^ | August 31, 2012 | Guy Benson

Posted on 09/01/2012 4:05:35 AM PDT by Kaslin

If Barack Obama and David Axelrod had their druthers, every American voter would have a certain impression of Mitt Romney:  An exceedingly wealthy, secretive, greedy robber baron, using his substantial means to identify and exploit small businesses -- sucking them dry of capital, bankrupting them, and laying off all the hard-working employees, leaving a trail of human misery and destruction in his wake.  After distributing those pink slips, he cackles and rubs his hands together while depositing his obscene profits into his off-shore bank account somewhere, then it's on to the next victim.  This is the cartoon liberals have painted of Romney, spending tens of millions of dollars on negative ads.  It's mean-spirited fantasy.  Yes, Mitt Romney built an exceptional private sector career.  Americans tend to celebrate that sort of thing.  But he's also a faithful, honorable, compassionate family man whose generosity and kindness hasn't gotten nearly enough attention, at least until last night.  Three speeches during the closing session of the Republican National Convention shed light on the private deeds and values of the party's nominee for president.  I'd bet that the Romney's weren't thrilled by the prospect of airing their private (squeaky-clean) laundry for all the world to see because bragging about doing the right thing feels unseemly.  But given the assault on Mitt Romney's character and the consequential nature of the election, they relented and decided to allow others to sketch out those elements of Mitt's life on his behalf.  Kate touched on one of these speeches earlier.  I cannot possibly share these vignettes any better than the speakers themselves.  The hall was silent, and few eyes remained dry during these extraordinary testimonials:

RNC 2012: Church Members Share Moving Tale of Son's Tragic Death

RNC 2012: Church Member Says Mitt Romney Devotes Life to 'Quietly Serving Others'

My eyes welled up again just posting these videos.  I couldn't help by feel pangs of profound compassion for these families, and genuine gladness that a man as fine as Mitt Romney was active in their lives to comfort and help them during their struggles.  Where is the monstrous, avaricious, uncaring money robot we're always warned about in these anecdotes?  He's nowhere to be found because he doesn't exist.  This truth transcends partisanship.  Another speaker at the convention was Jane Edmonds -- a member of Governor Romney's Massachusetts cabinet and a lifelong liberal Democrat.  She chose to speak out for her former boss because of his integrity, not his platform:

Say bro, what’s that I hear in the background there as we’re conversing? Sounds an awful lot like a whistle pig off in the brush there as we’re riding by on an Elk hunt!

Hehehe...and what’s that I smell? It sure does smell like their little droppings off to the side of the trail. I could be wrong you know, it could be one of them hoary marmits, but with the wind the way it is, I’m pretty it’s a whistle pig’s droppings alright. LOL!

Have a safe evenin’ my friend.

Palin is supporting the Republican candidate, whoever that would be.

Unfortunately, it is someone who bought the candidacy.

Obama’s position on abortion is far more expansive than Romney’s. Therefore, any action or inaction that results in Obama’s retaining office may have consequences of even higher numbers of abortions. Are you willing to have on your conscience that your velieve bote resulted in more abortions?

I firmly believe that defeating the greatest evil is the most moral course of action.

Me, too!

Eternity is a long time to ponder--what I should have done.

Pretending to act by essentially not acting is a negative act.

There are only two candidates. All others are pretenders. Those who vote for them are pretending to vote.

Rationalization otherwise is self delusion. Putting up endless straw men to bolster the delusion is intellectual dishonesty.

Are you saying Palin was bought off? I don’t believe that. She is choosing the best of the men that are up for the job.I dont think any Republican candidate would please you. We are in a big mess right now and some lines are clear and some are very fine. We must make the the wisest choice that is available. At least this time there is a choice. Last time we had McCain and people couldn’t see much difference between candidates.

We are at war with Obama......and you don’t go into war with the army you want, but with the army you have....and Romney is the army we have.

No, Palin was not bought off. She, like Gingrich, are loyal Republicans who promised to support the Republican candidate whoever that would be come this election. After the election, all bets are off.

Mitt Romney is his father’s son. George Romney hated conservatives so much, along with Nelson Rockerfeller, he worked with the Democrats and LBJ to defeat their own Republican Party’s candidate, Barry Goldwater. Both Romneys, father and son, admired and personally knew Saul Alinsky. Does this sound to you like Mitt Romney is much of a Republican?

George Soros hit it squarely: there is no difference between BHO2 and Romney. There is no “choice”.

Conservative Republicans have been screwed by the greedy in our own party, by the politicians who do not want the crony capitalism in Washington, D.C., to change.
