It’s been 40 years since I saw it at a military theater at Fort Lewis. I don’t remember much beyond the final line. I wish it were available in full DVD.

I loved the line at the end of The Gathering Storm.

Winston Churchill: I’m the new First lord.
Military Guard: We know, sir.
Winston Churchill: How do you know?
Military Guard: A signal was sent to the fleet this afternoon, sir.
Winston Churchill: What signal?
Military Guard: “Winston is back.”
Winston Churchill: Winston is back......And so he bloody well is!

In 1839, the 29 year old Frederic Chopin settled into George Sand’s estate in Nohant and wrote one of his most beguiling pieces, full of grace and warmth.

Chopin: Impromptu #2 in F#, Op. 36

The summer of 1839 produced another pair of nocturnes for Frederic Chopin. The first is wonderfully melancholy night song.

Chopin: Nocturne in G minor, Op. 37/1

The second is a lighter and happier night song.

Chopin: Nocturne in G, Op. 37/2

In 1839, Frederic Chopin wrote a piece that has hints of Schumann. It begins with a sweet, rocking 6/8, but turns dark at 2:00 with an anguished section. The calm section returns, but goes in an unexpected direction, then turns pitch black in a storm of notes as the middle section returns. The coda is based on the middle section, and it ends in a minor key version of the opening.

Chopin: Ballade #2 in F, Op. 38
