Rubio's gaffe...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aqrYc7CVTzg
"Lets make sure they write that we did our part. That we chose more government instead of more freedom."
He turned his back on us several times; all in taking a
chance on him. People see smooth and likability, so they don't see or know he's not conservative on important views.
By your logic he must go, for there is no room for error.
The NRC, NRSC and you of course will oppose him in 2016, right?
Yes, Senator Rubio said it backwards. I turned to my wife and asked if I had heard wrong, but she didn’t notice; her brain fixed it for her, kind of like when you read “going to the the zoo” and not even notice the extra “the.” I hope that most viewers reacted similarly and that his flub didn’t take away from the powerful message of his outstanding speech.
LMAO - perfect comment. Seems like many around here missed your reference.
And regarding Clint, I guess we could say "there is iron in your words of death for all to see...." (I love non sequitar movie references that work nonetheless)
Christie, if I may: Rubio is not as perfect a conservative as many would like, myself included. However, conservatism is not just an issue by issue check box. Yes, too many folks treat it like that, but it’s not. On many issues of great importance, Rubio is extremely good and extremely gifted, and this includes the all encompassing issue of the vision of what America is.
Give me that over a retarded Todd Akin “check all the right boxes” idiot any day. And FTR, Rubio is more conservative at this point in his life than Reagan was. No guarantee he will continue to age like Reagan did, just sayin....
The posters who spent most of the last week hammering Akin for a lesser offense sure are quiet this morning.
If you can’t see the difference between a gaffe and a belief, then I am sorry for you.
He might have meant to say:
"Lets make sure they write that we did our part (about) That we chose more government instead of more freedom."
That's awkward, but "we did our part to stop an America that chose more government" does make sense.
It may not have been a gaffe but his subconscious speaking because he knows what's coming despite words to the contrary.
What's ironic is that the night that Akin won the primary those were his exact words that he said that his campaign was going to be about -- but in reverse order:
"More Freedom Less Government."
By your logic he must go, for there is no room for error.
Of course there's room for honest error - there's no room for saying and meaning what he said.
Boy, you are obviously smarting over Todd’s misstep.
Rubio’s mistake was so obvious that no apologies or mea culpas are necessary. Nobody is calling for him to step down, resign or claim he is unfit for office. Have you thought about why that is so?
One person’s error was obviously innocuous. The other’s many defenders still claim he made no error. That is because many people feel he really believes what he said. And that is the problem. He didn’t just say today is Thursday, when he meant Friday. He gave a thoroughly bogus medical justification for his viewpoint.
Todd has since had to apologize repeatedly for his “crazy” medical arguments. He has admitted they have no scientific justification.
Now, I give him credit for admitting his understanding of the science is totally without merit. Fine. However, how anyone could have even thought that in the first place is bizarre. And even if he thought that wouldn’t you want to do some exhaustive scientific research before you publicly espouse such ideas?
I will assume that he has educated himself on the science and no longer entertains those “crazy” ideas; however, it still leaves a person wondering what other “ideas” may be percolating in his head. Is he going to spout out some other unusual scientific facts that later have to be dialed back. Unfortunately, he has left a lot of people with the impression he is a little kooky.
Personally, I don’t think he harbors any more of those type of ideas. After all he is an engineer and many of his ideas of science and its applications should be grounded in the real world.
However, your attempt to equate Rubio’s mistake with Todd’s is a stretch. If Mark Rubio had said “After talking with astronomers I have concluded the moon is made of swiss cheese” I would then say his mistake was equivalent to Todd’s and maybe Rubio should think about resigning from the Senate.
Todd’s fate is now in the hands of Missouri voters. I still hope he steps aside, for the good of conservative and pro-life movements, the State of Missouri and the country but that is his call and apparently he is going to stick it out.
If his decision is final I think he is being very selfish but I still hope he wins. The potential chance to take the Senate is a rare opportunity and means so much for the future of our country.
You’re projecting. You have no excuse either so I don’t feel sorry for you.
In my case Jacquerie it is because I made my point and went on to other things. Obviously, unlike you, I don’t believe the END JUSTIFIES THE MEANS. Just because Todd might win the election does not change my feeling towards what I feel about him and the quotes. If he wins, more power to him. But I don’t compromise my thinking based on results, but on my core ethics and beliefs.
Any other ‘progressive-style’ questions or smart-ass comments you’d like to ask me about?
Hmm, so what does that say about Rubio's support for compromise with the Dems on the Dream Act. Seems like right there you've got more government intervention and less freedom. Maybe, it wasn't really a gaffe, but a slip of the mask?
Funny thing is that all the Akin detractors ignore that he was para-phrasing (very poorly) a published, albeit obscure, medical paper, and that he has apologized for the poor use of the word legitimate.
Maybe, if people used the same standards, the people of Missouri wouldn't have to fight an uphill battle against Claire McCaskill, because of Akin being pilloried by the very people that are ostensibly supposed to be on our side.
Yawn.
What projection? A gaffe is when you misspeak. IE “legitimate” and “less freedom more govn’t”. A misspoken belief is claiming women can “shut it down”.
This is the problem with the blind Akin supporters... I am not talking about “legitimate”. That is a gaffe.
The statement that women can “shut it down” is the belief that is the problem. That is the issue.
A misspeak based on legitimate studies not a belief. It's amazing that no one would argue that the stress of a bad day at the office can cause constipation or diarrhea but think that the immensely more complex female reproductive system is immune to stress. Or is it that you don't think rape causes any stress?
You realize how unprovable that claim is? That is why people are upset at him. Good luck w/ that. I hope he wins, but don’t make these claims saying that calling him out on what he said is wrong.
