A new poll paid for by the Family Research Council, a pro-life group, indicates pro-life Missouri Senate candidate Todd Akin now leads pro-abortion Sen. Clair McCaskill in the race despite the controversial comments he made about abortion and rape.
The pro-life group says the poll is evidence that Akin should not drop out of the race and that calls for him to do so were premature.
The new survey conducted by Wenzel Strategies of likely Missouri general election voters shows that Senate candidate Todd Akin has regained his lead over Senator Claire McCaskill by a 45% to 42% margin, with 13% undecided. It also shows Akin leading by 10 points among independent voters.
Fritz Wenzel analyzed the results of the survey and concluded that Despite the firestorm of news in the Senate race over the past few weeks, most voters have already made up their mind in the race, the survey shows. The fact that 80% said they were firm in their choice certainly indicates that this is a race that will be decided more by ideology and turnout efforts by the campaigns and less by breaking news that flashes across the news pages and cable news channels.
Family Research Council Action PAC Chairman Tony Perkins offered the following reaction:
This polling shows that Missouri voters are returning to the substance of this race and the clear contrast of records between Todd Akin and Claire McCaskill. Throughout his career, Todd Akin has consistently fought for legislation that honors marriage, human life, religious freedom, and national security. He also has a long record of opposing the commodification of womenin stark contrast to his opponent and liberal detractors, who promote groups like Planned Parenthood while ignoring how abortion harms them.
Senator McCaskill has supported taxpayer funding for abortion on demand despite opposition from a strong majority of voters. She came to the Senate claiming to govern from the center but has instead been a steadfast supporter of President Obama and his liberal policies.
FRC Action PAC has enthusiastically endorsed Todd Akin for the U.S. Senate and will work to bring attention to the stark contrast between Todd Akins pro-family, fiscally responsible record and Senator McCaskills record of taxpayer funding for abortion and government-controlled health care, concluded Perkins.
I wouldn’t disagree with that
I put the question to soycd who earlier today said:
The DUmpster trolls posting here in support of akin do not concern me nearly as much as the deluded souls that think akins has greater than zero chance now. The Bell Curve is real.
“Yes, I know you will.”
I don’t think people on here realize how much I despise Lady McCaskill.
I read the write up on the poll and I have serious doubts about its validity.
Moderates support McCaskill by a 63-22 margin, yet very liberal only supports her by a 58-34 margin. Does that make any sense to you.
Until another poll corroborates this one, I’m going to call this an outlier.
The average middle-American doesn’t live in the liberal, politically correct world of the Washington D.C. GOP establishment. They would not be able to understand what is so gravely offensive about someone making a simple misstatement of facts or words where no offense to anyone was intended. The uproar from his own party made the whole thing sound worse than it was to people who were not paying careful attention. But once people take a minute to reflect and make their own judgment on what he said, there’s no “there” to be found there. The judgmentalism of anyone who would take the hammer down on Akin over this is morally worse than anything he said. The average person isn’t that mean.
And if the Democrats keep bringing it up, people will be so tired of hearing about something which is totally inconsequential to their lives that it’s the Democrats’ poll numbers that will end up going down.
You really need a large sample in a poll to be able to get demographic breakdowns or cross-references that have any reliability. You can't just take any poll and try to divide it up into smaller polls. That's because the sample of "very liberal voters" is much smaller than the overall sample, and too small to be statistically accurate to draw any conclusions about how "very liberal voters" feel. That doesn't mean there's anything wrong with the overall poll. But you need to have about 1,000 of any group of people to start getting reliable poll results, so this poll is good for "voters" but not for "very liberal voters."
I knew this was a hurricane in a teapot. Looks like it has already blown over.
Now when Akin wins this thing do you think we will see any contrition from the Anybody But Akin crowd here?
Turns out you might be right after all. What I dont get is, if Akin is indeed ahead, why doesn’t the RNC start contributing money to him again? Oh well, if the RNC doesn’t want to give him money that’s fine, he can win on his own..if this poll is indeed accurate maybe we have a shot at winning MO after all, would be great news!

Yes, you will see contrition and congratulations. You totally mischaracterize the situation with the ridiculous term “Anybody But Akin.” That really is being intellectually dishonest. Not anybody. A pro-life conservative who can beat McCasKILL. That is what we all want. You just don’t want to accept that some people disagree on Akin’s ability to do that. To some of us, he blew the chance to beat McCasKILL and has actually done damage to the pro-life movement across the country. Yes, it is totally unfair, but the RATS will play this across the country as part of the preposterous War on Women theme with the help of the mainstream media. That message will keep playing over and over and over. Their convention is going to induce projectile vomiting here in Upland. I will be very glad to say I was wrong on election day if he beats her. But thinking with my head, rather than my heart, I don’t think he can.
Someone, maybe you, had stated on FR that McCaskill and the Dems have not even started yet to exploit the Akin blunder because they want to wait until it is too late to replace him. I think this is true and they are trying to lull us into a false hope.
McCaskill has been suspiciously quiet the last couple of weeks. The only ads I have seen from her don’t even mention Akin.
Roughly an even balance between, R, D, and I. What’s wrong with that. Probably closer to reality than most we’ve heard lately. R’s in MO are likely even higher, however.
It seems that enough people stepped forward to confirm that this theory was indeed taught to doctors and nurses years ago, that he was given the benefit of doubt by many.
= = = = = = = = = = = =
Someone else said it. After Sept. 25 she will pour it on. The ads will be totally unfair and a total mischaracterization, but Akin will not have a way to defend against them. The election, of course, will be determined by the independents and undecided.
"Hi, I am Claire McCasKILL, and I approve of this message. Fellow Missourians, did you know my radical, right wing opponent believes that there is actually something called legitimate rape? As shocking and outrageous and heartless as it may be, those were his words. Legitimate rape. He said them. Legitimate rape. Just imagine that. Imagine if it were your mom. Legitimate rape. Your sister. Legitimate rape. Your daughter. Legitimate rape. I ask you to trust me again with your vote. For as long as I am able to serve you, I pledge to you that rape will never be legitimate."
How does Akin respond? Ignore it? Apologize again and explain what he meant by legitimate rape. He has no way to fight it. Just wait until the words are heard from the podium at the RAT convention.
Akin is now winning again. He does’nt excuse killing the child because Mommy says she was “ raped”. Did she press charges? did she testify? Explain ,if you can. the morality of killing and innocent child because of rape?. Any way Akin is back on top. People don’t want to kill babies FOR ANY REASON. Put them out for adoption if you cant keep your knees together. Go Akin!!

The Republicans are waging an unprecedented war on women.
I wish Congressman Akin’s indefensible “legitimate rape comments were just an isolated incident but this is really just another sad chapter in the GOPs extreme right-wing agenda. The Republicans are now acting stunned by the Congressmans statement, but we need to ask them: Where was your outrage when Todd Akin and Paul Ryan supported legislation to redefine rape to the made-up phrase of forcible rape?
Its clear a GOP-controlled Congress will stop at nothing to take women back to the dark ages. But, we can stop them.
Fighting back starts right here and right now with electing more [women/democrats] to Congress. The next 48 hours are critical for [insert democrat candidate] s campaign. [insert democrat candidate] is a top target of nearly every shady right-wing outside group intent on keeping the Republicans in power. In the next 48 hours, [she/he] must show that [she/he] has the resources to go toe-to-toe with these outside groups.
Please help [him/her] fight back now. The next 48 hours are critical. Please contribute to [insert democrat candidate] now.
Before we elected President Obama and passed health care reform, being a woman was a preexisting condition. We have fought too hard for the progress we have made on women health and women’s rights to let the GOP-controlled Congress turn back the clock. We cannot go back.
Help me send [insert first name of democrat candidate] to Washington to fight for the issues we care about. Help [him/her] stand with me in Washington and fight back against these right-wing outside groups and finally put an end to the war on women. Contribute to [insert democrat candidate] now.
Thank you,
Barbara Boxer
U.S. Senator

Aug 01, 2012 11:43:58 AM Wenzel Strategies congratulates newly minted Texas Republican Senate nominee Ted Cruz for his runaway win in Tuesdays election to replace Kay Bailey Hutchison. - POLITICO-July 12, 2012: The Republican pollster who signaled Dick Lugars demise and Deb Fischers late surge is now flagging an upset in the making in the Texas Senate Race. TEA Party favorite Ted Cruz is leading Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, 47 percent to 38 percent in the GOP runoff, according to Columbus, Ohio-based Wenzel Strategies.
- "When we contacted Wenzel Strategies, we had a pretty clear idea of the types of things we needed to know from a public opinion survey. Fritz Wenzel came out and met with us and helped us craft a survey instrument that met our needs very well. We were interested in doing a poll of Licking County, Ohio residents who commuted to jobs out of the county. Industry site selectors and expanding businesses want to know where they are going to find a workforce, and though we saw commuters as a talent pool, we didn't know much more about our commuters than how many there were.
Among other things, we wanted to know the skills of the commuters and an understanding of the mindset of a commuter to help us determine how best to convince them to find work here in their home county when opportunities were there. Wenzel Strategies gathered and analyzed the data in a professional and expert fashion that has helped to put us on the road to building strategies to make our county's economy and its communities stronger. I strongly recommend Wenzel Strategies for any small government or non-profit organization that has a project like ours and is trying to determine what its residents or clients are thinking. This has been a great experience for us."

So, to the extent that you can take any poll to the bank, this poll is conducted by a reputable firm.
Akin will win this.
FRC is the most influential org in the midwest.
>> But lather, Rinse, Repreebus says he wont get any money from the GOP. <<
.
And the GOP will never get another cent from me.
.
You can go on believing that, the MSM and GOPe would love it, but that idea was manufactured, and is nonsense.
Most people know that most rape accusations are false, so his ‘legitimate rape’ term was the one to use for them, and the rest is biologically factual by all the evidence available.
Akin will do fine, and the lies will succumb.
Good to see you posting Al!
