CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. - Training at Camp Lejeune Thursday looked and felt real -- and that was the point. Law officers and marines from across the country ended their training with a bang.
Thursday was the final day of exercises for law enforcement and marines who have gone through special reaction team training at Camp Lejeune for the past three weeks. In the final exercise, teams were presented with a series of real life scenarios as well as hands on instruction to handle them correctly.
Brian Dye, Operations Chief of I&I in Lexington, Kentucky says training civilians as a blended force with Marine Corps personnel eases the transition into a real world scenario.
"I think it's always good when you get an opportunity to work on some similar tactics and procedures so that everybody's kind of operating on the same page. That way when you bring teams together from active duty and the civilian side, it makes the integration a whole lot smoother."
The tactics trainees take away from this course just may help save lives. This three week SRT training course is phase one for law enforcement and Marine Corps personnel. Phase two will focus on sniper and designated marksmanship training.
One need not go that far back - remember Kent State where troops fired on students.
Ha! I will take you at your word. And I just lost a little respect for Marines.
I'm trying to care, but it's just not there.
The poster inferred that a company of military police undergoing training was going to be the next KGB/GRU/CCCP all because some weekend warriors were training with guys that are police officers in their day job.
Civilian police need to train and have vast levels of experience. Reservist military police have access to a base to train at and could use lessons learned/tactics from police officers.
Rather than having the civilian police come to the base to train and share their experiences with reservist military police and save the taxpayers money......
I suppose we should hire KBR, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, or Dyna-corp to do this and charge billions of dollars for the military contract and millions of dollars for each civilian police department contract. Yeah, the second option would make way more sense.
When are you going to explain your goofy post to me?
What in the world are you talking about?
Are you just wasted drunk or something?
Well that is too bad because the poster is a SEAL and you come across as a load mouth thug.
John Mertha was a Marine too. And John McCain and John Kerry use their service to assert their superior authority. You sound like them.
Thanks for your service just the same.
I’ve done my time, a-hole.
If you’d read the article, you’d see they’re clearly talking about working with local “law enforcement” agencies and people.
Indeed. And they recruit from the civilian forces as well.
I don’t trust the current administration, but this kind of thing has it’s place.
Just because you don’t have a problem with these tactics doesn’t mean that some of us don’t.
Since you don’t think that the militarization of local police departments is a problem perhaps it is because you are too close to it or are a part of the machine and simply don’t know it.
Odinga said he is going to create a civilian army as large as the regular army and maybe you are simply training them for him. Can you really think of a use by Odinga for a multimillion strong civilian army that is good?
They are talking about Marines working with civilian law enforcement in training. They are also talking about getting people on the "same page" for training....not the same page for when they go clear Louisville together.
For example - If a police officer says "cover me"....his partner is going to strong point his weapon and search for threats.
If a Marine says "cover me" his fireteam is probably going to lay down suppressive fire.
LOL, you are a druggie guy, no wonder you aren’t making sense on this thread about using the military domestically.
You should at least find out what our position is on the thread topic before you bring in your personal baggage and carrying grudges across threads, to make personal attacks against freepers.
LOL. No, I ain't a "druggie guy". I know you don't mind heavy handed government so long as it it directed at "them". You are a hypocrite and you may soon be "them" yourself.
It is sort of sickly sweet that Repeat Offender is arguing that the military needs to learn from your kevlar clad drug warriors how to violate citizens rights.
Why are you here crying about this? You love jackboots and state power.
Don't put words in my mouth. I was commenting that MPs receiving traing from civilian police is NOT a violation of Posse Comitatus.
Go through my posting history......I've commented quite a bit AGAINST the militarization of our police. I've commented against federale action at Ruby Ridge, against cops tazing innocent civilians, against law enforcement shooting pets. However, this unit is a Military Police unit. They give out speeding tickets to other Marines, wave you through the gate, handle detainees etc. In fact, a lot of Marines call them buddyf#ck#rs because well, they joined the Marine Corps to write speeding tickets for other Marines.
Odinga said he is going to create a civilian army as large as the regular army and maybe you are simply training them for him. Can you really think of a use by Odinga for a multimillion strong civilian army that is good?
No, I can't. And when the story broke I commented against it. I was against it, I am against it, and I always will be against it.
Do I think there is a need for Special Weapons And Tactics units that can be called in to do hostage rescue, terror response, and similar missions? Yes. Do I think those guys may need specialized training? Yes. Do I think they should be called in for every high speed chase, drunk and disorderly? No. Do I believe in no-knock warrants? No. perhaps it is because you are too close to it or are a part of the machine and simply dont know it.
Or perhaps, I am trying to relate from personal experience and observation that there are other legitimate reasons out there and the knee-jerks are unfounded.
It does indeed look like Washington is preparing to wage it’s war upon us.
You are an idiot. I guess you don't realize that when there is a hostage situation on base housing they don't send in 2d Marine Division to go clear it out......they send in MPs that have a SWAT capability; that requires more of a police mentality than "take down this city" mentality.
Also, I guess you don't realize that even in a war zone we still try to protect the rights of foreign citizens and that our MPs are training Iraqi and Afghan MPs and that police tactics in the U.S. just might be applicable?
Don't you have Ron Paul convention to go to so you can explain how 9/11 was an inside job? This is the same kind of nonsense one would expect from a truther.
You are arguing about something that evidently comes from another thread, a thread about your drugs I take it.
So far you have attacked me personally over and over, but about nothing to do with this thread.
I don’t know you, but you obviously are some thread crossing stalker, that carries his perceived slights with him from thread to thread.
They are training in American urban scenario. Nice name calling though, Marine.
Don't you have Ron Paul convention to go to so you can explain how 9/11 was an inside job? This is the same kind of nonsense one would expect from a truther.
That was pretty good too. You are a good ambassador for the Corps.
My money's on Travis, n00b.
