"In an interview for Revealing Politics today, RNC Chairman Reince Priebus was asked, among other things, if the partys position on Akin would eventually change if Akin refused to step out of the race: The question is: If he stays in, is your position eventually going to change? Are you going to have to support him? The Chairman replies No, no. No. He could be tied. Were not going to send him a penny.

Akin’s fault... he’s a doorknob...
The same people that howled like little girls about Christine O’Donnell costing us a seat. Our voters recognized in 2010 that having Castle in the Senate would do much more long term harm than good as a left leaning moderate from a Democrat state and rejected him. All Rove and the RNC intelligentsia could see was one less seat.
Now, they will refuse to back Akin, even if he is winning. Stupid. I wanted Akin out. I think he made an atrocious decision staying in the race. If he does recover, we should be behind his campaign 100%. My guess is there is still wrangling to get him out of the race, and this message is sent to help accomplish that goal. From that perspective, I see why it was said. It is a strong statement, though, and one that can not really be walked back. If they changed course in October, it would now just bring the whole issue back into the forefront nationally.
Something still stinks here. Why would a candidate do this so near the election?
Guys like this wine-sipping, biscuit eating bastard Priebus are the main reason I've not sent a dime to the RNC in ten years and won't!
Something still stinks here. Why would a candidate do this so near the election?
I think this is the most overblown story of the century. Seriously. The Republicans are making hay out of this. He won the primary and should get 100 percent support. I mean we are forced to support the Obama’s twin, Romney who believes and is as liberal as Obama if not more. This whole story is ridiculous. God Bless Akin for your courage and convictions.
Priebus is playing it smart, here. The money the NSRC was going to spend on Akin can be better used in other states (like mine, Ohio), and saying so early will force Huckabee to open up his coffers and get his fundamentalists to fund Akin and put him over the top.
This has gotten way past ridiculous. Akin is the candidate. He’s the choice of MO Republicans. Get over it, we need that seat.
FU Prince Riebus.
Aikin’s. He’s a horse’s ass.
A seat in Missouri is not worth the Oval Office and this is NOT the same thing as O’Donnell or any of those other cases.
Its not a case of Rinos versus conservatives.
Its a case of decency versus a stupid ass who said something totally illogical and nonesensical and threatens our entire effor tin 2012.
Nope, 100% wrong at this point. McCaskill is beatable, and with support even a damaged Akin could do it. The GOPe is going to ensure that Akin loses, now, for what ever reasons they have. Personally, I don't think it has much to do with his comment. Rather, it's more to do with his politics being too far right for them.
With the attempt to change the RNC rules in order to give the GOPe the ability to cut out, steam roll, or ignore anyone they don't like, the noises of how the pro-life crowd has hijacked things, the continued non-support of candidates who are too far away from center, the bashing of the TEA party, etc; it's an unmistakable pattern.
I voted for Brunner, so Akin is not my first choice. There it is, though; it doesn't look like he's not getting out any time soon, so we better support him, of McCaskill wins.
You’re right something stinks. Sarah Steelman who lost to Akin in the primary CONDEMNED Akin’s statements. There is a lot of sour grapes over Akin winning the primary election and the republicans care more about politics and putting Akin in his place (how dare he beat the establishment candidate!) rather than stopping the evil cancer that has infected our country.
This could be Akin’s winning strategy. “I’m standing up to the RNC. I’ll answer to you, not the party that abandoned me”.
Yeah, Akin’s “me againstparty bosses” really ticks me off. He refuses to take responsibililty for the mess HE made. He made this mess. Nobody else.
Romney made a very stupid mistake by jumping into the fray. Now Akin can't even appear with him or Ryan when they are in the state. And no doubt there could be payback against Romney by some Akin supporters who may even appear at Romney/Ryan rallies. Great photo op for the MSM.
You don't publicly call for someone to withdraw unless you know they are going to withdraw beforehand. It makes you look weak if they don't.
That might work!
Where's Huckabee? He kept Akin in the race - why isn't he campaigning with Akin, calling on his followers to fund his race? If he thought Akin should stay in to carry the social conservative banner, why isn't he stepping up to support him?
Th RNC backs lots of pro-life candidates with conservative records like Akin’s. The problem is his stupidity and hubris, not his record.
Every time that I read a RINO’s attack on Todd Akin, I send him a contribution. RINO Priebus’ comments added $40 from me to Rep. Akin’s campaign this morning.
I disagree - Akin is toxic, and Romney was smart to distance himself. I have to believe that Akin himself would have dropped out had it not been for Huckabee's maneuvering to keep him in.
No Presidential nominee wants to explain how a woman's body will "shut down" a life conceived by rape. I suspect Akin will have a hard time explaining it when asked about it, over and over, through the rest of the campaign.
But he's the candidate, and he ain't leaving.
We are stuck with him.
LearJet McCaskill is vulnerable. She can be beaten, even by Akin.
But let's just piss the seat away and give it to her deliberately because...
...why?
